HP zv5000 backlight not working

I am doing a favor for my aunt and checking out my cousins HP zv5000 laptop. The inverter isn't turning working properly, however once and awhile it will flash for a second on. Is there a way to test the inverter? The HP manual just says replace.. well, I am not big on that being I don't even know if I would get reimbursed for the parts, so I'd rather get it right the first time. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,
Douglas

obviously u already performed a check according to hp manual and so on to determine that it was the inverter. So if it recommended inverter replacement, then go for it. If it was a wrong diagnostic then u can always blame on what the manual said according to ur recherche and test to get refunded. Part/Cost of the learning curve in anything

cheers ...

Unfortunately the manual gives no testing procedure outside of replacing it. I followed their little flow chart and it said replace cable, replace inverter, replace some other stuff. I was hoping I can use a voltmeter to do a little more diagnostic.

Thanks,
Douglas
