Gateway's New 17" Laptop with 8800GTS card for 1399! - Page 3

Well I'm sorry to have to say this, but BB has just raised the price of the Gateway P-6831FX to $1699.99.

It looks like those of us who got to it early, especially on sale, got a very good deal on it.

The second hard drive tray does not come with screws so I had to use some other hard drive screws I had lying around. They are a little wider than most but I'm sure you can get them at a computer shop.

As far as the P-6882, they come with an ATI X3100 video card but the question is if it is an integrated GPU or a discrete video card

Seems like P-6831FX hype will be gone now since it's now $1699.99

looks like a Best buy pricing error. This should be back to 1349 or less in a few weeks.

looks like it's on back order everywhere (even from gateway). Also, if you follow the link above and click to buy online it brings you to the 1249 price...which then brings you too the 1699 best buy back ordered page.
But it might work for a pricematch, I'm gonna email best buy and put my foot in the door for a pricematch to 1249, it's like option trading, only free!

Hey guys.

Im very interested to buy this awsome laptop but I have a question for you guys.

At home, im using a Dell 2005FPW lcd screen (20'' widescreen lcd) and it max resolution is 1650x1050. I want to know if it will be possible to plug the laptop on the monitor and display the laptop screen at is full resolution (1440x900) in full screen mode or can I use a resolution of 1680x1050 since the nv 8800gt is supporting it but not the laptop screen?

The thing is that I want to buy this beast laptop to replace my old p4 with ati 9800pro desktop pc to play games like WoW. But I still want to use my Dell screen.

I need your help guys before buying it.

THX

@waltz99:
- from MSP:
"You'll be fine. My Macbook has a native res of 1280x800 and I frequently run it on my 22" LCD at 1650x1050. You're only limited by the supported resolutions of the display adapter itself."

cheers ...

For those interested, there are some Intel Extreme X7900's for sale on eBay. They're running for $509, w/free shipping. The problem is, they are an overseas seller, which makes me a little nervous. They appear to have a good record though.

The Gateway P-171XL FX comes w/the X7900.

Look on page 87 of your FX Reference Manual about Overclocking the Processor. It mentions the Extreme Edition, which are the only cpu's that are unlocked.

What is the easiest way to remove all the bloatware. Good dog there is a ton of junk on this laptop.
this even puts dell bloatware to shame.

I would but mine is on order.... : /

I ordered it yesteruday and they told me 3-11-08..

But I can't wait. Not sure if I need that much horse power with the cpu. I have a dell 1705 with a 2.0 c2d. and that seems fine. The video card in the gateway blows what I have out of the water.

Are there benches for the 8800gts on these forums?

Sorry for being a noob. You mean the disk that came with it right?
With the dell when you used the disk it would stick all the crap back on the HD. That was why I didnt use the disk as I figured it would be the same thing.

Kinda sucks having downloaded CSS and and 3dmark on it but I guess I can just re do it anyway. better then dealing with all the bloat.

All and all I am very impressed byt this laptop. Never thoughtI would buy a gateway, but then again didnt think I would have bought a dell before I did either.

Can anyone confirm if there is the possibility to SLI this thing. One notebook review the reviewer said he believed there was an extra mini pci e slot which he believed was going to be for a second possible card. If this thing can use the new processors and the capability to go sli I think this is one of the best deals I have ever found.
