About ready to purchase a Dell Vostros 1400, any issues with these I should know?

Hi everyone,

First I'll say that I'm not a real hardcore computer person, somewhere between average, and "knows enough to get suckered into being the defacto "IT guy" in a company that doesn't have a real one." I'm looking for a computer that is primarily not too heavy, has good speed, and "might" handle some 3D modeling software in an acceptable manner. I'm about ready to buy a Dell Vostros 1400 with the following specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
XP Pro
120 Gig hard drive
2 Gig of RAM
GeForce 8400 GS

Any quality issues people have seen?

Any particular component choices to AVOID?

Any quirks with software, etc? (I'm sticking to XP to avoid Vista so I hope there isn't!)

I'm wondering if the standard 14.1 monitor is "good enough" (I'm not doing any gaming on it really) or if the Truelife or XGA+ is worth upgrading too. Truelife could delay it until the 21st, and I'd much rather have it ship on the 11th!

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping that since these have been out for awhile there should be some better feedback on them.

I had one for a couple months and liked it overall. I currently sold it to upgrade to the XPS M1330. I needed more graphical power is why I upgraded or I would of kept the unit. I did run some 2-3 year old FPS games on it and it ran fine on low to medium settings. I use a lot of CS3 hence why I need a dedicated GPU. Other than not having the raw power of a graphics card everything was tip top. Looked great, felt great, compact, good battery life, feature set, etc... If your not into hardcore gaming and wanted something presentable as far as laptop goes this is a great choice.

By the way the specs looks good and picking XP rather than Vista is also a good choice. I had mine with Vista Ultimate it ran fine most likely because I had 4gig of ram installed. Anyways, enjoy your purchase.

You might want to see how much you would save upgrading the RAM yourself rather than purchasing it from deal. Other than that, it looks good to go.

I checked into that but at the sale price the system is already configed for 2 Gig as the minimum. BTW, thanks for your reply!

I have a few more questions:

How bad is glare on the Truelife screens? Would I be better off with the standard screen if I'm concerned about this?

Which screen has a better viewing angle?

Is the overall picture quality truly "better" on the WXGA+?
