150W Ac Adapter and E1705 Beeping

Hi,

I just got a spare E1705 and bought a 150W Ac brick to install a gtx 7950.

When the battery is charging and the system is off, there is a continuous beeping on the system.

As soon as I disconnect the adapter the beeping is gone.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The beeping occurs only when the computer is turned off and the battery is being charged.

Thanks.

Does the computer recognize the 150W adapter in the BIOS? It might be that the computer can't read what kind of adapter is plugged in, either due to a bad connection or a bad power supply.

I don't think it matters that it's a 150W adapter...my E1705 with the standard 90W adapter makes a very faint beeping/chirping sound when charging. You can barely hear it unless you are either real close to the computer or it's a very quiet room. As soon as the battery is charged, it stops. I'm hoping it's normal too.....

Don't know if this helps, but I've had both a generic and a genuine Dell 150 watt adapter and never heard this beeping sound. I'll experiment more and see if I can make it do the same as yours is.

Thanks guys,

I do confirm I get the beeping only when the battery is being charged. After that everything is fine.

I have a 150 watt it does not beep

Do you mean the high frequency hiss sound? It's more of a soft cricket chirp than a "beep", and yeah, that's normal - it's just the Dell's switching power supply being weird. I think how bad it is depends on what revision of motherboard you have, and what specific power supply chips and more importantly, how good your ears are.
