"We're about innovation and having the best network," Chief Executive Brian Roberts told The Associated Press in a preview of his speech at the Consumer Electronics show on Tuesday.

Roberts is expected to demonstrate a technology that delivers up to 160 megabits of data per second: It will allow him to download a high-definition copy of "Batman Begins" in four minutes. The technology, DOCSIS 3.0, will start rolling out this year.

"If it's as successful as we hope, in 2009 and beyond we will have it available in millions of homes," he said.

currently my cable provider gives me 10:1 for about that.
the move to DOCSIS 3.0 will not be smooth, easy, or cheap but to compete with FiOS it will be. the amount of back end work necessary will be enormous and expensive and that will get passed on to the consumer
I won't bore you with particulars but lets just say most Docsis 2.0 equipment would need to be replaced from the house(modem) to the central distribution center for you to be able to get any benefits.

Yeah... Comcast told people WAY back when they first rolled out the highspeed cable interwebs, that the high prices would only be temporary... until the infrastructure was in place and settled in... I don't get cable television (don't need or want it) and to get Comcasts 6/768 service at my home in Michigan is 67.95 a month. Its robbery really.

I guess I just don't see the prices of this going down anytime soon

I get about 10:3, very nice

I get 15:1 right now; pretty nice ratio really.

But the kicker for me, with cable services, is when they cap you for actually daring to use the "guaranteed" upstream bandwidth. Ask me how I know about this capping business. :/

All that said, I'm wondering if you really and truly are guaranteed 24x7 use of all that upstream bandwidth with this service?
