Asus M6N with SXGA+ with faults

Hi,

I've got my Asus M6N with SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen and one dead pixel, it's a shame but I can live with that.

BUT, know the screen have started to "shrink", I don't know if it's the correct word for it, but it have shrinked. In the top and in the left side, with approx. 0,5cm. Have anyone else seen this issue? It's like the screen have moved from left to right. It looks like its become smaller, what can cause this and can I have it changed on the guarranty? I live in Denmark and I paid DKK 14.995,- for the machine. Specs

1.6GHz Pentium M
60GB 5400 RPM HDD
15,1" SXGA+ Screen (1400x1050)
512Mb RAM
... more

Anyone who can tell me what to do?

Cheers

Have you checked that the resolution is still set to 1400x1050 in Windows Display settings?

Yes, it's hard to describe. It seems that the screen "physically" have shrinked in, or moved from left->right. It seems odd, you know what I mean?

Other than the pixel, the display is fine? No gradient issue?

The screen is ok, it's just become smaller, no gradient issue. What is the "gradient issue" by the way.

I got the pictures of my laptop screen edges/borders, to better describe/show the problem.

Those pics are kinda awful but I get your drift anyway ;p

First off, does your pre-windows environment also show that prob or no? Like, if you go into BIOS during boot or when you view the 'Asus' bootup image, is the display also messed up then or not?

If it's not apparent in BIOS or startup image then you can blame win, and if it is, well...

I'm not a lappy authority but I'm pretty handy with PC's, and with PC monitors thats kinda par for the course depending on res and easy to fix with monitor controls. Like, I resize my desktop to a higher res and then suddenly I have a black/blank border around my display, which I then adjust for with monitor zoom/stretch or a combination of both until the image fills the screen entirely again. Dunno how this laptop provides that kind of control, but I can't imagine it just doesn't have them, and I'd bank that if you could access em that'd fix the prob.

Well, this fault is also in the BIOS and all kind of fullscreen views. So it must be a HW error.

Anyway, I've created a RMA for this laptop at my local dealer.

Check the 56KWarning Asus M6800N thread initiated by Aliensub under benchmark forum for more info. But basically early shipments of SXGA+ units suffered from vertical display gradient issue where display brightness increased from top to bottom.
