Display issue with Vista and M1710 with 7950GTX

OK here is what is going on.

Let me preface this by saying I have done several searches and looked through several threads.

my display will all of a sudden get all scrambled (kind of like when you try to run a 7800gtx with 6800 drivers)

if I unplug the power adapter the display will straighten out and if I leave it on battery for a little while I can plug it in and the display with be fine. This also seems to happen when when it comes out of a black display (when it shuts it off if I am not using it for awhile.

it would also do this when the UAC would kick in. I disabled the UAC so that solved some of the issues.

it also does it when when I put it into the D dock.

I am running a clean vista ultimate install and the only 3rd party software I have running is setpoint for my MX5000 (which the mouse is having issues but that is another thread I have to research.

I was using the latest version of the NBF drivers and the screen would go crazy ANY time I would plug in the PSU from battery. I did update to the latest Nvidia drivers from windows update (dec release) and that turned it from an constant issue when I would plug it in to an intermittant one. as I said no if I leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes and plug it back in the screen will be fine.

I have tried several different revisions of power adapters.

I could really use some help on this one.

and again I have done several searches and gone through a ton of threads with no help.

Thanks for any help and support I can get

update screen goes wacky when I open internet explorer

then once the NIC card deactivates I can plug it back in and it works fine

What exactly do you mean "scrambled"
Do you mean vertical or horizontal lines?
If vertical, try upping the 2D memory speed to 121mhz or above (default is ~100).
You will need to edit your vid card bios and then flash the modded one with the 121mhz+ speed.

good luck

ok I also see that windows update installed actual older drivers than the latest NBF ones

scrambled as in a bunch of diagonal lines if you ever saw a picture of somone who installed a 7800gtx in a gen 2 that didn't clean out the 6800 drivers you would know what I mean. a buddy of mine Djinn suggested it might be the power mizer settings so I am working on that

Well, good luck.
I found that with Vista and the newer driver sets that there was not enough memory bandwidth to drive the desktop when the powermizer settings set in (2D mode) so by increasing the 2D memory speed to 121mhz or above would fix that.
Then, pieter took it a step further with his modded inf's at laptopvideo2go and added an inf setting that will help adjust the 2D speed, so if you don't want to flash your vid card you could try one of the drivers from that site.

Let us know either way

oh my memory is flashed and overclocked I just can't find the darn power mizer settings in the Nvidia control panel

I am using the NBF drivers right now and will try the laptop2go drivers and inf's shortly.

that doesn't work i am just going to get dell to swap my card a few times then have them replace the whole system with a 1730 because when I bought this 1710 with a T7600G it was suposed to be vista capable and it clearly is not.

I spent way to much money on this system to have compliance issues at all

Is this done with a BIOS flash? If so, that could be the problem. Try to reflash it with an underclock on the memory and see if it helps.
