Might lose Vista, especially 64 bit version. I've heard nothing but issues with it.

Vista however is a mixed bag. Some of my friends game on it, no problem, others like myself still prefer "good" ol' XP. You state this is a gaming rig, and at this point it's proven that XP is better for gaming, at least for now.

Also, might get an 8800 GT video card, especially considering your monitor's max resolution. Plus, your motherboard has PCI-E 2.0, which the 8800 GT utilizes.

Lastly, kill two gigs of that RAM, and you might switch to DDR2, as DDR3 seems to be much more costly and troublesome then it's worth.

Just my two.

M17-7410 :: Windows Vista Business 64-bit DSP OEM DVD (0.25 lbs)

$149.97 Get either Vista 32 or XP 32, both are going to be more reliable

H24-EF224 SB :: HP LP2465 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 6ms, 1000:1, WUXGA 1920x1200, Silver-Black, DVI, VGA, Pivot, 500 cd/m² (33.35 lbs)

$619.99 This thing is overpriced, look at Dell's more affordable 24" monitor and it kicks ass at a lower price

C283-1171 :: Cooler Master CM Stacker 830 ATX Full-Tower Aluminum Case with Vented Side and 1000-Watt Power Supply (44 lbs)

$349.99 Good choice, love the case

S203-8508 :: Samsung SH-S183L SATA LightScribe OEM Burner - 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD±R Dual Layer, 12x DVD-RAM, 48x40 CD-R, 32x40 CD-RW, Black (2.4 lbs)

$29.99 Looks good to me, anything would do really

Item #: N82E16820231150 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-2GBNQ - Retail (this times 2 for 4 GB)

$459.98 Do not get this, really expensive and DDR3 gives you no noticeable gain. and for the price you might as well pick up a new motherboard in the future to get DDR3 granted it turns into something amazing

CP1-DUO-Q6600 :: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor BX80562Q6600 - 2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket 775, Processor with Fan (1.35 lbs)

$289.99 Good choice, do make sure you buy from a place that guarantees G0 edition if you plan on overclocking

I69-2162 :: Intel DX38BT Motherboard - FREE Copy of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 PC Game, Intel X38, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, eSATA, RAID (3.75 lbs)

$229.99 Again, look into not doing DDR3, maybe the P5E. It's what I'm looking at.

E145-8826 :: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX Superclocked Video Card - FREE Crysis PC Game, 768MB DDR3, PCI Express, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card (3.05 lbs)

$509.99 You'd be better off buying a single GT and waiting to resell/eVGA step-up to a better 9 series

Hate to be so down, but here's my take.

Just realize you can't SLI with an Intel board.

Whoops, just realized that myself.

I still suggest the X38 as SLi remains not fully efficient

Hard Drive?
the rest has been handled by the folks above other than I'd be looking into an Nvidia 780i SLI maybe or Skulltrail

Thanks for the feedback. It appears I need to do some serious tweaking on this.

RockSteady: I already have a hard drive I plan on using. Its a Seagate Barracuda 7200 750GB Hard Drive 16MB Serial ATA-300. I got it for free. My boss bought a new hard drive for his old home pc and needed EIDE and ATA. He just went and bought a new EIDE hard drive and gave me the ATA because he said he didn't want it. Score for me.

Ok I need to adjust the following:
1 . I need to stay away from Intel boards if I want to use SLI.
2. Use either Win XP or Vista 32 bit. (went with 64 bit for the 4 GB memory issue)
3. I can save some cash if I go with DDR2 and not DDR3
4. Look into the Dell 24" monitors and other alternatives
a. UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor 699.00
b. E248WFP 24-inch Widescreen Black Flat Panel LCD Monitor 375.00
5. GT over GTX

I will repost when I find replacements.

Skulltrail will support Nvidia and it's from Intel.

Also motherboard brand recommendations. XFX motherboard got 5 stars on tigerdirect and I found a few other good ratings on it. If anyone has suggestions on a better board, or bad experience with XFX please let me know.

Have you taken a look at www.newegg.com? I personally prefer them.

Also, do consider on that ram, that for less than that price you could pick up 4gb rather than only 2 (@800mhz)
post #11 of 28
Agreed with pdonket. 4 Gigs of 800mhz RAM will do you better than 2 1066mhz, especially if you don't plan to overclock.

When it comes to mobos, Asus is the one I use, but XFX is no slouch. However, you might want to check into EVGA for your video card as they offer an upgrade path that allows you to trade out your old video card for something newer at cost + difference. Only dowside is EVGA's step up program is for 90 days from date of purchase. Plus, EVGA overclocks their video cards from the factory and I'm fairly sure they have a lifetime warranty on them as well. EVGA is the company for video cards, to be sure.

Everything else looks good man. Keep us updated on the monitor though.

Totally agree about EVGA, if you're looking for a temporary GPU that kicks ass but you also want a 9 series, EVGA is the company you will want to go with. XFX is still good, as you can resell with the buyer getting the same lifetime warranty, but I doubt you'll get 100% of what you paid

Well I should be on there a bunch too, although I can't pick up any parts until my credit card dispute ends

Funny part is that the CC company did a pre deposit of $1760 which is the full other computer's amount, then the company themselves (because of their brainless people) credited my account $300...which was for a restocking fee So now I have $2060 for my computer. But the CC companies contribution is only a temporary thing

(for the record that XMS2 ram is probably what I'll buy too)

Thank you, so much for all your input so far.

I would like to place this order today and I am having trouble figuring out which motherboard to get. I searched newegg for ASUS and then ordered by ratings.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated on this.
post #20 of 28
Well, I still suggest the X38 if you still don't plan on getting SLi going, 780i if you want SLi

P5E for the x38 chipset

I'd say evga for the 780i
