R50p bad motherboard - fix or move on?

Thread Starter
I have an R50p that started freezing up. I sent it to a service group in Calif. After a month, they determined the motherboard is bad. They tried a T40 motherboard, but the video won't work (R50p has an ATI FireGL chip). I went to the Lenovo website and PN 91P7372 is what I need, but it says its not orderable. I am torn between 1) ordering a new system and buying all the Microsoft Office programs that are currently on my HDD 2) trying to fix this one. 3) Buying a used R50p online - there are a couple on Ebay for about $300-500 - that I can just plug my HDD into. My problem is I need to use my current HDD since it contains programs that I would have to repurchase since I no longer have the CD's (I have the data since I backup regularly to CD). Any suggestions? Are there any follow on systems that an R50p HDD can plug into and go or am I stuck with only the R50p? I'm sure I'd have to redo the video driver if I tried maybe a T40. thx

It should just be a regular 2.5" PATA drive.

Open Office is an option so you don't have to fork over the cash to Microsoft. Its free, its stable and in most cases a direct conversion.
