E1505 945gm display adapter help please

OK here is my problem. I did a clean install of XP pro, installed the chipset, installed the video driver and POOF... all text *except in internet explorer* are unreadable and icons such as the back and forward butrtons in windows explorer are garbled lines of poo.

I know i did everything right, i have three other dells, and ive done this countless times on other systems. Ive reinstalled XP and done everything 3 times now with the same results.

All drivers install fine, no yellow marks in device manager. If I disable the display adapter in device manager, windows defaults back to 1024x768 and everything is fine...except its not the native res.

any ideas ?

inspiron e1505
15.4 WXGA display
XP pro SP2
processor T2050 1.6 dual core
intel 945gm chipset
intel on board graphics

latest bios rev 17

Here is what it looks like

ok solution, I had to disable all hardware acceleration. WHY ? ! anyone with an e1505 care to tell me if their advanced display settings are like that ?

You should not have had to do that, the chipset supports acceleration. Are you sure you installed the correct driver? Check the version and see if there is another version available either directly from Dell, or INTEL's website. Sometimes you can get the reference drivers that are newer.
