What to do with my old notebook?

My wife was using my old laptop until yesterday when she switched to her new XPS yesterday. I don't think its worth anything, so I'm considering donating it, maybe give it to NBF or some one, whoever could use it. Anyway here is what it is:

Alienware Area 51M 5700 series
P4 3.0
1GB Dual channel DDR
cd/dvd drive (no dvd burner)
Conspiracy Blue
16.1" screen
two battery's
Original Alienware binder (if that even matters)
ATI 9700 128MB GPU
2nd generation mobo with gig-e

Its in near flawless condition, the power cord is showing some wear, but thats it. Its been all over the world, has served me well, however its collecting dust now.

What would you do?

I'm considering it if it's no longer worth anything.

i dunno, simply as a gaming system it wont be worth much anymore I'd think, because of the 9700

only one I see on ebay right now is for $200, broken mobo so just parts for repair (which isnt bad considering that LCD is probly pretty expensive new)

I'd say you could get $300-400 for it on eBay or the for sale section

i dont think its worth it to sell.... if you feel like donating, thats up to you. I think its a pretty nice thing to do.

but why not keep it ?? XP should still run well on that system and so should any linux distro... keep it as an internet machine

Electronics depreciate faster than almost any other products. If a notebook computer is a year old, it can generally be sold for about 50% of its purchase price. If it's two years old, you could get maybe 35% of the purchase price. Three years old drops it down to 25% of the purchase price, and yours is four years old, so... you get the picture.

But be thankful it's a notebook. Desktops depreciate even faster- a four year old desktop is essentially worthless on the open market and anything older than that means you'd have to pay someone else to take it.

my 8 year old son has been BEGGING for a notebook to play half life2 on (why not a desktop? he has to be like dad and use a laptop of course). I'll catch you on IM. maybe we can make a deal.

I donate my old desktops and laptops to our local elementary. It is amazing how far behind the computers are in our nation's schools.

Thats a nice notebook man. How big is the HD, you dont have that mentioned above. Id keep it and use it until its dead. However, if you can think of a good cause that is also a good option, Im sure youll sleep easier at night
