Fenuxx's New Desktop Setup and Build - Page 8

You might want to remove one stick of ram if you are goin to install a fresh 64bit install. I never had the problem with 32bit, but sure enough I got the bsod many times until I pulled one stick (down to 2gig). Installed all drivers, did SP1 then was able to put the other back in without a problem since. Doesn't happen on all setups but don't freak if you get a bsod with both in there. I don't see much difference in day to day stuff between 32 and 64 but like you I wanted to be able to use the full 4gig should that ever arise. Not found any big name programs that have givin me any trouble yet. But mostly play newer titles on that rig. Good luck.

Well, I've got a slipstreamed copy of Vista 32-bit and 64-bit with SP1 (the MSDN slipstreamed .ISOs) so that shouldn't be an issue with the RAM.

Are there any apps you HAVE had issues with?

It's my gaming rig mostly. I do use it to back up some movies to hd. I've not had a problem with nero/nero encode (much faster as it uses all 4 cores). Can't think of any off the top of my head that has givin me any trouble atm.

This used to be a great place to get drivers and troubleshoot back in the early days of 64bit. Not sure if it's up to date but worth a read if it is. It's not just amd as the name would make it seem. They have some drivers for network, audio, stuff like that. Not been there in a long time though so may be of no use.

I loaded Vista 64 Bit on my gateway, it seemsto work fine, and I know 3Dmark bencharks don't mean too much, but as expected Xp was a little faster.

Still does not have the problems that XP 64 Bit os gave me.
