0501 or 0502 - think 0502 is still in beta, not sure

Edit: 0502 released 12/18/07

Should I go AMD or nVidia with a P5E/Dell 2407WFP? Single card solution...will never go CrossFire.

Pick up an 8800GT from eVGA and then step it up to the 9 series when appropriate

Answered here. Don't want to derail Tony's thread...

Who is this Tony you speak of?

Soundz like a plan pdonket (if that really is your name).

It's all in the timing though!!!

Really though pdonket, a 8800GT would be a nice replacement for a x1900xtx. Hate to throw the ATI in the trash bin though...probably put it in the drawer to attract dust
instead.

OK got it. A little Mod action I see...sorry Fenuxx!

Back on track... Would it be smarter for me to just go with a P35 board now, and get an X48 board in a few months? I've been really watching the MSI P35 Neo2-FR, and AnandTech gave it an astounding rating and review. I certainly trust them, and I'm wondering if going P35 right now would be smarter, then, once things settle down (and by the time I'll want to go Quad Core anyways) pick up an X48-based board?

Probably. The Neo-2 is a stand-up board. I just hate dropping $$ knowing I'll buy something else in a couple of months.
hence my 2-month wait. GBQ has been waiting , what, 6 months now?

That's what's nice about it... 1.) The Neo2-FR is a frickin' CHEAP board. $99 after rebate is awesome. 2.) I'll be upgrading BOTH the videocard (eVGA step-up) and the processor in roughly 3 months anyways.

Besides, it's not like I'm trying to justify an ECS board.

I'm just curious though, will there be any X48 boards with DDR2? From what I've seen, only DDR3 boards are in the pipeline.

Is Nvidia just not putting anything out? I've not heard much about anything they're offering being touted very well. I assume you're not looking at any SLI system boards.

The X48, Asus Rampage Formula is DDR2. I'm not sure of any others right now.

Cool, gotcha. At least that saves me from my worry that X48 boards will be ALL DDR3.

I'd look at other chipsets, RockSteady, if there were ones to choose from. Right now, GOOD FRICKIN' LUCK finding an nForce 780i board, and the 680i boards don't have what I want them to have.

Personally, I'd PREFER an nForce chipset, I've been using them for MANY years now, and I've always gotten along with them. They're just not competitive right now.

There's the Striker II and EVGA FTW on the immediate 780i horizon....

And unfortunately, I don't have the time to sit and "wait".

The only thing I've got right now are my two laptops, and if it weren't for having to borrow a friend's external hard drive to store all of my crap on, I'd wait it out. I'd love to wait it out... But my crap needs somewhere to be... Both laptop's harddrives are too small to hold all of it...

This is what happens when you started computing back with a 486... You accumulate TONS of crap...

I hate being in this little (or big, however you wanna look at it) predicament.

Ya know, come to think of it, the same thing happened to me last time. Bought my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 Ultra chipset) mobo, GeForce 6800 GT AGP videocard, and AMD64 3200+... I was happy being at (basically) the king of the hill for several months... Then PCI-E hit... And nForce4 hit... And I was sad.

At least it wouldn't be as bad, really at all, this time. I'd be able to save ALL of my computer's components. Just swap the mobo out and call it good. Add new videocard and uber processor, and I've got myself an UPGRAYEDD.

Can ya tell I'm trying to talk myself into this?
