I wish this stupid check would clear finally so I could get the rest of my stuff.

I'll probably get the eVGA 8800 GT from Amazon. Currently on sale for $259.99, which is a damn good price. Then, just gotta pick up the hard drive, RAM, and PSU (PSU from eBay where it's about $30 and from a legit seller).

I forgot to mention this - but the Penryn dual-core chips will be on shelves next week. The quads should be available NLT March.

The 6750 is still an awesome chip, however.

Yeah 6750 is a great chip, although I'd still prefer a 4ghz OC goddess

That was exactly my point. I got the great-performing E6750 now, and when the Quad-Core Penryn chips are out around March (same time I'll be using my eVGA Step-Up) I'll get one.

See, I've got a plan.

Update?

or

I gotta know how the DFI board worked out...

I just ordered the videocard today (8800 GT) so I'll let you know how everything goes once the system is fully built.

Right now, it's fully assembled, save for the videocard. The P182 was an absolute BREEZE to work with. The single best case I've worked with in a long time. Took a bit to figure things out, but the insides of the case are so neat and tidy, you'd almost think that Voodoo built the computer.

I was pretty jazzed too when I started mucking with the P182. Not a sharp edge in site. The only pain (not really a pain, but I had to find something wrong with it) was installing a larger power supply with the supplied 'bracket'. They also coulda placed the lower-chamber fan support just a tad (.5-1") forward.

I dig having the ability to route and tie all of the wires behind the main board.

Speaking of boards...just how big is the NB sink on that DFI?

It's absolutely huge. You CAN mount a fan on it if you like, but I had to change the way my XP-90 heatsink was oriented (pointed the hangover part of it towards the backplate) in order for everything to fit, but it all does, and it actually looks pretty intimidating. Bigass CPU heatsink + bigass northbridge heatsink. lol

Well, I couldn't hold out any longer, and I NEEDED to find out if the thing booted at all, and it did. I slapped my PCI videocard (Rendition Verite V2200) from my DOS-Box in there, and fired it up. Everything worked, got the BIOS tweaked, and after finding out that AWDFLASH doesn't work with this board (even though DFI LISTS the damn thing for the board) I was able to boot into my BartPE disk, run WinFlash, and update the BIOS to the latest version.

Now just to wait for my 8800 GT to get here so I can slap the case closed, and get to installing and tweaking.

Also of note, I defied the laws of computer building. EVERYTHING, including the front panel connectors, were right from the get-go. I'm probably the first one EVER to do that one.

Another thing I thought was absolutely amazing was that the CPU, sitting in BIOS, was running at 22c. Is it me, or is that DAMN cool? My old Athlon 64 3700+ (2.2GHz, S939, single-core) ran at 35-40c idle. I'm impressed by that one.

Alright, well the computer is up, and moving. Right now I'm copying all of my crap from my external hard drive over to the desktop.

Everything seems to be working just peachy, and yes, I'll be running benchies. Though they won't be anything spectacular, as I only have a whopping 1280x1024 LCD.

You need to take some of that cash you spend on audio and drop it into a new monitor.

OK... I've done 7 different installs of Windows XP. With different sources (one using MY XP Pro (retail) disk, another using my DELL XP Pro (OEM) disk) with integrated hotfixes (RyanVM Update Pack or Xable's Update Pack, tried both [not at the same time, obviously]) and without.

All are giving me WEIRD things. Strange crashes. Certain things not working (ranging from nothing launching due to UXTheme errors to Windows Installer [.msi] errors). I just can't figure it out for the LIFE of me. One strange thing I've noticed with EVERY mix of installs I've tried, is that Windows takes about 2 minutes to boot after everything is installed (booting to create my user account, etc) then, after all of that is done, it boots normally (less than 30 seconds to the desktop) which is what I expect.

I'm not overclocking a thing, everything's at stock values, temps and voltages seem fine, and BIOS is up to date. I'm really at a loss here guys. I could use some help!

Also, I've tried using BOTH of my DVD drives, both are giving me the strange errors, so I'm ruling out file copy errors.
