Man - that's hard to answer right now. The next big thing in the card market is slapping two high-end GPUs/cards together in a single slot. Both the 9800GX2 and 3870X2 will be out in the next couple of weeks. I haven't seen any decent comparative benchies yet.

I am inclined to go nVidia just because of one of their vendors....EVGA. EVGA has a kickass step-up program and lifetime warranty

tell me what to get buck come March.

9800GX2

rumor has it the G100 "9800GTX" will be released in March.

I'm going to try and wait, but I don't know if I can hold out till end of March. I'll get an eVGA and step it up hopefully before the 3 months is up.

should I get three and put it in triple SLI?
You could get two 9800GX2's for quad SLI

Three 9800GTX's might play crysis at max now...

maybe.
i probably wont deal with SLI. I always thought it was a waste of money anyway. we'll see tho.

Dude - I can't honestly recommend anyting right now. Both of the dual-gpu cards will be available within the next month. I hope they have the drivers worked out.

Once game benches come out, along with the driver reviews, I'd feel better about a recommendation.

I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen any 3870x2 benches/reviews yet. Then again, maybe ATI got word that the 9800GX2 was going to spank their card...hence the early release and lack of benches thus far.

I am not a proponent of multi-card setups. Too much money for too little gain, and borderline 'gimmicky'.

I'd be willing to buy any single card config that will pull a 30fps avg w/Crysis at max settings.

I love SLI ... not to mention TRI

To each his/her own. IMHO - there are just too many issues with SLI boards for me to recommend a multi-card nForce config.

If I absolutely had to choose a board today, it would no doubt sport a X38 or X48 chipset.

If you add 3-4 weeks to the mix, that suggestion may very well be different with the current non-reference SLI offerings. I really like the Striker II and EVGA FTW.

Buck47 - Do you have any hands on experience with SLI?

Yes.

*Edit - @ shazz, I apologize for my lack of clarity...or apparent state of confusion (thanks Boyd for pointing that out).

My experience is with a couple of socket 775 boards...the ASUS P5N32 and the EVGA T1 board with 7950 cards. Both boards had memory controller problems. It may have been operator error, but after multiple conversations with one of the OCZ techs, I ruled that out.

At the time, SLI drivers for the mega-sized 7950 cards were, IMO, incomplete. The same applied to the BIOS for each board. SLI worked, but not to the 'hyped' level nvidia claimed. It was just a big disappointment after spending that amount of time and money in a system that just didn't perform.

Switch to SLI today...scaling still a little too dependent on software. In a perfect world, increasing the hardware resources by 50 to 100% should give you the same incremental gain in performance. That simply does not happen.

I believe another major change in GPU architecture is in order.

Oh come on people...126 views w/ 12 replies.

We do not discriminate here. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

We're all waiting for 9800GTX

AMD Spider 3870 SLI? I know AMD's much maligned at this point but the question comes how much of a difference does it make in the end? I'd like to see someone put a review up here. I'm still waiting for my videocards for my current build but that's my next step.

Intel Socket 775 - ASUS P5N32 and first gen EVGA 680i T1.
Better?
What does that mean Buck47? eVGA 680i is not Intel...

"It's been three weeks I'm going insane!

I'll gibe you everythang I've got for a little piece (peace) of mind

I'm So Tired, I think I'll smoke another marijuana cigarette...

I'm feeling a little upset...Just a little pin prick..."

It was originally a follow up on shazza's stupid question of "Are You Experienced" Buck47...not necessarily stoned but beautiful...

Feel free to edit/delete my stupid comments as they don't mesh with yours.
