Video Card Discussion - Page 4

Here is:
5770 (= 6770): $370 (xfx) / 128 bits DDR5 -- what I liked: 108w
5830: $440 / 256 bits but 175w!!!
450 GTS: $400 / 128 bits 106w.
Until 110w, I could keep my corsair 430 ya?
XFX is good, bad?

Take the 5770 for sure, fit the bills winknudge.gif

And yes, xFx is cool, they have been around for a long time.

430W PSU should be fine if you are not into pushing apps

cheers ..

Yup I was considering the 5770, but what you mean by pushing apps?
For instance if I run Crysis (not that I will but since it's considered a heavy graphics game) and fraps will I have future problems?
I just found Thermaltake TR2 800W 80 Plus Bronze by the same price as a 650w Corsair smile.gif
I don't want to burn my system, compromise the motherboard, etc.

Crysis is being considered a pushed-app smile.gif (for me anyway). The card will be able to handle it, and if you are going with a 650Q PSU, you should be fine then

Ain't bad at all, cuz I'm using it! laughing.gif More expensive than I planed but heck it's my first card. I'm still getting used to the fan and observing the PSU (430w) temperature. Soon will run FRAPS and some games to check the performance.
Thanks again for the help!

uh oh ... games and gaming ... there goes all the spare time laugh4.gif

I need to think about playing with desktops again. The last one sits in the basement collecting dust and spiders winknudge.gif

Howdy! Doubts again...yeah it`s a girl thing.
So I tested the 6850 for a day, playing ME2, with Fraps oscilating 25~45 (1280x1024), not max. Without FRAPS: 60 fps.
Today I set all catalyst AA, etc to max (game settings are already at max) and got around 50+ fps with FRAPS.
Pretty good I guess.

HOWEVER, my CPU case is average (two average coolers) and temperature rized to 47'C (testing with speedfan), plus the card cooler noise, oscilating all the time. Im freaking about the temperature compared to my old 35'C. Some say it's normal and temperature could rise to 75'C ohmy.gif If that goes on, I will need a bigger case and I seriously don't want a "building" in my table... and then buy more coolers, argh....laptos are soooo much better.

So considering I'm an average gamer, will play only ME trilogy at my PC (the rest of my old games I plat at my lap), I'm thinking why the heck I got a 6850, that consumes 19w plus energy (and I leave the PC on for 8 hours) compared to the 5770. It showed a good/ok performance in youtube. I know the 6850 its 28% better close to 5770, but I think I just got a Ferrari and wont make a lot of use...
Thoughts?

Oh yea and I saw tests in 5770 with fraps and seems it also goes 30 fps, and 60 fps without it. So the fps is basically the same compared to 6850. Maybe with AA the 5770 will performe at a nice rate.

Can you return the 6850 and get the 5770 to test it out for yourself? I don't think that you would need a bigger case, just better cooling fan eventually, there are always newer, better and smaller- Check out the threads over DTF on custom builds, many enthusiasts over there with very small case but with crazy performance

And no, laptops are not better if you are into gaming, regardless what Alienware, R.O.G or whatever fangirls/boys say laughing.gif (they gonna shoot me now winknudge.gif )

cheers ...

Noup I can't test the 5770, but from what Ive heard a lot of people crossfire these cards and get a performance similar to 68, which I may add is very good for heavy games. That is not my case, I do like to relax play my favorite ones but not every week, not all day. I'd be well set with a 5770 though everybody is screaming don't do it lol.
When I said laptos I meant the silence, maybe even the Qosmio? wink.gif

I see smile.gif There are plenty of silent CPU, fans, coolers out there at the moment. I would not be surprised to see a silent desktop pretty soon.

Nothing but a cool headset to drown out the uninvited noises, non? winknudge.gif
