why no external monitor during post on the 2090?

why wont anything show on an external monitor during post? is there any work around? FN + F3 does nothing for during post! its extremely frustrating.

seriously though? can anyone add anything to this? booting with xp the display will kick on around the time of logon and desktop, itill remain blank during everything else. booting with ubuntu you have to manual set the display. this is my first laptop and assumed a vga jack meant i could connect a display and basically have the machine function. put simply, connect display and then display displays the post, bios if i enter it, everything. with this 2090 it only seems to function if you have an os loaded and tell the driver to do so? doesnt sound right to me.
