Dell E1705 Sound Funky

Thread Starter
I'm pretty sure the jack is broken, just trying to confirm with you guys.

Basically the sound only works when my headphones are plugged into, the speakers don't work regardless of what's plugged in.

The only way I can get the speakers to work is to plug my headphones into my line-in, and kind of pressure the jack downwards towards the headphone jack, then it works.

Diagnostics error was 1B63:111B, so is motherboard replacement the only option? Thanks.!

Yep sorry to say it is.

Try reinstalling the Roich Media Card Drivers, on that series the sound card chip and the media card reader chip are very close together, I had the opposite problem, speakers OK, headset no-go installed media card reader drivers and it worked.

I have the exact same computer, and have the exact same problem.
I have been doing the same thing in terms of a fix, but now its not working so well anymore.

I am waiting for word back from Dell and will try to let you know if they have a fix.

I know it's an old post but just in case someone is looking for a possible fix.

Got the fix for this!!!

use the Toshiba Sigmatel sound Driver:

Make sure you uninstall other Sigmatel drivers through control panel... This should solve your problem first time...I'd be surprised if it didn't. Only way would be is if you actually had a hardware issue... LMK how it turns out.
Found this info out on a Dell forum...
