Thoughts of Macbook Air? - Page 2

@kiko10 ... IF you think you will want to game at all, then the MacBook Pro is a much better deal for you. Compared to the m9700, you'll think you are carrying air with the 15.4" MacBook Pro. And the performance is impressive, so depending on how much downloading etc you do, it may be what you want.

IF you're keeping the m9700, then the AIR might be a good choice, as you'll have a super portable to go with the 17" notebook....

To add on to Shazza's comments, if you are NOT going to game on it, a regular MacBook may be a much better(Not to mention cheaper) solution depending on your needs.

i dont think the Air was ever meant to be a user's primary laptop.
It is supposed to compliment your existing desktop or powerhouse notebook....

overall, it may be a weak laptop in comparison to others, but for the market its trying to win ... it has a decent shot..

pricing seems reasonable... it is apple, you are paying for the brand, but i find the SSD to be too much

Pricing would be reasonable to me, if it came with SSD. Till then, not to much

i dont really game anymore so i dont care about gaming. but ill also keep the m9700.
what i like about the air is that its really thin and the multitouch trackpad.
im still thinking of the mbp but im afraid they might add something new to them after only 3-6 months from now and it wont be upgradable.
im not in a hurry maybe ill wait for some reviews but how long will you guys think the mpa will last if i bought it.

i mean all ill be doing is surfing, some movies and a few more programs.
will i be able to do things cpu related like converting movies and stuff or will it be too much for it??

Well with any brand new products form apple, it probably isn't a bad idea to wait for the second revision. Their first revision tends to have undesireable elements to it.

Well, I guess this system might be great for users who use a laptop and a second laptop or desktop. I guess this might work for me, but currently on my MacBook, I use approx 2.5GB ram normally (in use, not cached), and approx 100GB of hard drive space... To tell you the truth, theres a lot of me wanting this system, but I'm not sure if I want to sacrifice the other stuff.

Also the MBP is sure to due for an upgrade of some sort very soon according to the Buyer's Guide at MacRumors.

the plain macbook is the best option if you are only looking for light gaming but gaming nonetheless. mbp is overkill in this case and mba is not enough yet expensive. like others have said, the mba is also a rev 1 product and is likely to have many issues observed and repaired by rev 2, so it is not a great idea to spend a premium to be apple's guinea pig. that said, in your situation I would only look at the macbook, which is not due for updates anytime this year imo, though possibly macworld 2009. the mbp may get a quiet bump before june, but bank on nothing serious happening if it is on track for a major revision with montevina come fall. I have to say the lack of macbook updates at macworld this year was tremendously disappointing, but not completely out of line if observing the macbook/macbook pro timeline (exception: mpb's intro required many quick revisions to fix urgent issues). an immediate update is not impossible, but don't hold your breath (see the waiting period on mac pros). get the macbook with santa rosa and don't look back.

at least the good thing about the air, that it gave us a glimpse of what the next MBP will look like.

I'll give a small review when we get ours.

I ordered two today one for me and one for the wife.

I'm sorry

Nah hope it goes well for you, especially check and see how sturdy the frame is, I am a bit worried about that among other things.
