Bill Gates Says Xbox 360 to be "Most Reliable" Console

Bill Gates says Xbox 360 reliability will go from zero to hero

For the current generation of gaming consoles, the Xbox 360 has several reputations. On the positive side, the Xbox 360 is the undisputed leader of online service and multiplayer, but on the negative side, it also holds a track record of being fairly unreliable.

At one point, up to one-third of all Xbox 360 consoles experienced the hardware failure popularly known as the Red Ring of Death, which rendered the console unusable.

In response to the apparent hardware design flaw, Microsoft in June 2007 introduced a revised cooling design with heatpipe and heatsink to cool the GPU. New “Falcon” hardware that would include 65nm chip technology, which was later found to apply only to the CPU, landed in stores last Fall. Hardware to integrate a 65nm GPU, codenamed “Jasper,” isn’t due until this August.

While many from Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division have spoken on the Xbox 360’s reliability record, Bill Gates was mostly removed from commenting on the issue – until now. Speaking in a BBC Video interview, Gates revealed that it’s now Microsoft’s goal to make the Xbox 360 “the most reliable” console on the market.

“Well, we certainly had to apologize to our uses about a number of boxes that had to be replaced,” said Gates. “We did that for free for all of those people, we've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the way we handled it.”

“We've got incredible reliability on the new work we've done,” he continued. “Our commitment is that it will be the most reliable video game box out there. People really love the Xbox because of the content, but we've got to make sure that the hardware never stands in the way of that.”

To cover owners of older Xbox 360 hardware that may still be vulnerable to the Red Ring of Death, Microsoft in July 2007 extended its warranty to cover the specific hardware failure for three years from purchase.

so inaccurate its scary.

Not really inaccurate until they fail at it...

That being said I am not holding my breath for them to succeed. They got a long way to go to even catch up to the PS3, much less the Wii.

In terms of what? Reliability?

Reliability.

And reliability in this case refers strictly to hardware reliability, specifically to be known as the MOST reliable platform. That means they have to not only provide a reliable platform to start with, but also overcome their current reputation as having the least reliable platform.

They have a LONG way to go.

Still got a long way to go but the free warranty extension was a nice move.

here's something funny

"inside source" at Microsoft who was involved in the testing and manufacturing of the console. According to the John Doe, the system was rushed to beat Sony to the market, had purposefully cheap heat sinks (which causes most of the RROD problems), and, most disturbingly, there's a chance that Microsoft may run out of systems with which to replace those that suffer hardware failures.
Like i've been saying all along

By now, every gamer must've heard of the Xbox 360's RRoD but little has been heard of what happens when the PS3 claps out. Well one gamer has suffered the rare event of his PS3 malfunctioning, and has dubbed it as the Yellow Light of Death (YLoD). The following video below shows what happens when his PS3 failed...
Just in case you have shit for reading Comp.

true, the PS3 is still in last place but it is more reliable than the Xbox360 overall. Red ring of death stories were all over the internet within a couple months of the Xbox360 launch. There aren't any major systemic problems with the PS3 that I know of.

I don't care. I just post the news and the fanboy's come out like ahhhhh.

Funny. This is a thread about "Reliabality" Something that the 360 doesn't have and yet you call us Fanboys.

U R Tarded.

It was news. I post news about both consoles. PS3 and 360.

like this one
Another PS3 price cut?

You see, when I post threads, it's not to boast about something, it's to inform people on whats going on, or being said.

A fanboy would consider this another fanboy attempt, but it's just someone that doesn't have a console posting news.

A non-fanboy type of person would realize that...Darq, take your meds.

Again GBQ the thread is about 360's blaring Fail at reliablity not ONE PS3 that had a FAKE yellow light stuck on it. I can make my console do the samething by going to the install Other OS option and then canceling the install halfway threw then rebooting. After that you hold down the power button for 5 seconds and it resets to PS3 XMB as the default OS and boots just fine. Also you constently bashing the PS3 over anything made up or not is why you get called the fanboy.

Speaking of PS3 reliability I can definitely vouch for its lack of it.

Working in a games store I get to see peoples consoles failing all the time.
This Holiday season the PS3 outsold the 360 by only 20%. Which is surprising, but if you look at our faulty returns section, there is a pyramid of PS3's 42 at last count. How many XBOX's? none...
Not one. So far we've had a return rate of 20% of PS3's bought during the holiday season... And its not even a month since...

Don't take offense when I say I don't believe you.

Funny thing, I am willing to bet that if you take those consoles out and test them, about 10 percent will actually not work(This applies to all consoles, not just PS).

I used to run the video game departments of a couple of stores(One at a time) and always after Christmas we would check every console returned, and most of them worked fine. We marked them down for being open box and returned, told anyone that asked exactly what the case was, and honored our standard return policy on them. I can count on one hand the total amount of those consoles we ever saw again(And that is being generous cause I can only think of one right now). Noone ever had a problem with any of the ones that checked out good.

Obviously return != broken. Even if that is what the customer says, or even believes.
