acer aspire 5610z trouble

I have had my acer laptop just over a year know and everything has been fine until a few months ago. All of a sudden my dvd drive stopped working which was a major problem as I routinely back up my hard drive as I use it for work. Please can someone help me?
P.S The warrenty has runout.

can u expand a bit more as "the dvd drive stopped working"?
. when was the last time it worked?
. do u have a restore point?

I have already tried restore points.

I mean that the dvd drive refuses to rotate, and i think that the laser is broken

. rotate: it could be "stuck"? tried removing and reseating it?
. laser broken: ? i guess a new drive is in order then
