X61 and X41 extended rear battery

I was wondering if the extended battery on the back of an X61 or 41 is removable? I'm planning to buy either of these ultraportables and would like to know if you can actually take that from the back and save an inch of depth.

The 4 cell batteries should not extend out. If you upgrade to the 6 or 8 cell battery it will extend out. Depends on if you want more battery life or not. I got an 8 cell on my T61 that sticks out the back, but I never even notice it.

Is the 6-cell thinner than the 8-cell or are they the same? How many average hours does the 4,6,8-cell produce?

And btw, is it worth it to buy the tablet-type X series?

Looks like there is only a choice between 4 cell and 8 cell for the X61/X41 series. An 8 cell will be a little less than double the life. On my T61 I get around 2.5 hours with the 8 cell doing normal work (I have a dedicated graphics card, with an integrated solution it would be more). I would much rather have the extra battery life, it more than makes up for the extra inch in back and couple ounces in weight.

As for going with a tablet, it depends on what you need it for. I personally wouldn't get a tablet because I use mine mainly for browsing, watching movies, and coding. The only reason I would get a tablet is for graphics work, but I have a wacom for that.

What would you use the tablet for, and is it worth the price over a regular laptop?

Thanks for answering YankeeDeuce!

Thinking about using it for Photshop work and it would be very handy for class (I am currently taking college). I was thinking of buying the cheaper X60 series tablet.

I was wondering what is the difference between the XGA and SXGA+ versions of the X60. Does the SXGA+ lack touchscreen function? I read about it on this review. There was this part that says:
Quote:
Screen Resolution: XGA 1024 x 768 with pen and touch screen capability
Screen Resolution: SXGA+ 1400 x 1050

It looks like with the SXGA+ screen you can only use the pen, but with the XGA you can use the pen or your fingers. They don't make it too clear on the site or any reviews I've looked at though, but it wouldn't really make sense to have a tablet without any kind of touchscreen on it.
