Wal-Mart to sell $399 Google-powered laptop

The world's largest retailer will begin selling an ultra-light, two-pound laptop PC in a few weeks. Made by Everex, it comes with Ubuntu Linux [and] will be priced at $399.

Its close enough, and we have discussed one of Everex's other offerings here so I think it can stay so long as Dr.Louis doesn't see much problem either.

For the record these are the same folks that launched the $199 PC some weeks back to decent success, and are I believe helping with gOS.

I think it looks perfect for this section.

I just read about it. I wasn't expecting a 7" screen (seems awful small and the main reservation I have about the Asus Eee. but I like that it actually has a hard drive. when I transition back to a desktop I'd be really interested in something like this to complement it as a mobile solution.

Well its probably better to post this late than never

Looks like version 2.0 of gOS is on its way, likely for the laptop would be my guess. Along with a few other changes, it also apparently implements google gears.... exactly HOW it implements it is the question. If it does this to get things like my Calendar and GMail accounts cached locally... I may have to check it out.
