My review of the XPS M2010

Thread Starter
I have had my Dell XPS M2010 for over a year now and here are some of my opinions of this notebook/desktop replacement computer.
Positives
1. It is a nice machine with plenty of power
2. I like the bluetooth module in it to use with headphones and mouse
3. plenty of ports work with such as the 4 usb ports, the memory card reader.
Negatives
1. the DVD drive is slow writing
2. My keyboard is already going bad. Some of the keys are getting to the point where they do not work.
3. My notebook battery is already going bad. I have a orange/blue light flashing indicating this
4. The sound quality is poor, I get crackles and garbled sound at times and this has gone on since the beginning which I e-mail dell with and no help.
5. Dell support is very poor. I cannot even e-mail support now because I did not take out the extended warranty (which yes is my own mistake)

I bought this notebook because I liked the screen size and it is portable for what I do. I am somewhat disatisifed with the quality of the notebook because of the keyboard and sound and DVD drive being slow. I use my notebook for internet and some games plus I maintain a Christian website. I will probably not purchase another Dell with my next computer purchase. I feel I should be able to at least e-mail tech support for help. And if there is any problem then I pay to have it fixed if I cannot fix it myself. I paid 4500 for this machine and I expected a little more
I hope this helps others. If you have any questions please feel free to message me from this board.

My wife and I have been using 2 M2010's for nearly as long and they are holding up quite well. No keyboard or battery issues. My speakers still sound very good, better than any integrated speaker I have ever heard.

You don't need any warranty to email Dell support, I do it all the time and they are very responsive. This is a very unique product and does have parts replacement/price limitations but that comes with the territory. I still highly recommend Dell, overall they offer excellent performance and a very attractive price.

While I don't have a M2010 (I have a M1710) I considered getting the 2010, but the price was way too much for what seemed to be a marginal difference in product performance. It was just the screen that was a bit bigger. Anyway, thanks for the warning on the M2010. Maybe their next revision will improve it.

I think the warranty is pretty integral when it comes to Dell. When you dont buy it, they treat you like crap but when you do, they pretty much bend over backwards to help you out and the chat system is first rate compared to computer manufacturers who (just like dell) have outsourced phone operators who don't understand/speak english.
