How does this computer measure up?

Reposting this here from another thread I made as I didn't notice this subsection of the boards.

Is it just me or is this a really good deal for a gaming laptop? It looks good to me at a glance but I'm not really familiar with laptops.

How much of a difference would there be between this laptop and something like: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/...se&parentPage=

Is the Toshiba worth the extra $1000?

------------

Or how does it compare to: http://www.alienware.com/Configurato...de=SKU-DEFAULT
?

Any laptop around the $2000 range really as my limit after taxes is about $2200, but obviously I don't wanna dish out an extra $1200 for minimum upgrades. Looking for some opinions.

Looking to at least be able to play Hellgate London and Warhammer Online (once it's released) reasonably well. Even at say... medium settings.

------------

Just found this: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4210106

Another to add to the list. Still trying to see if the extra like $500 plus is worth it or not.

Thanks.

P.S. After reading around a little I'm beginning to think I'll need an 8600 or 8700 GT at a minimum for what I want. Really starting to like the looks of the Toshiba for $1449, although I'd prefer a 15.4' over a 17'.

I just realized that the Toshiba's video card from JR is GDDR2 and not GDDR3. What sort of difference does that make?

I really want to be sure I am satisfied with my laptop, but I would hate to go over $1500 or so when it wasn't really necessary.

My current desktop is running off of 1GB of RAM (DDR 667 or something I forget and am away atm). With an Intel Pentium 3.2GHz Processor and a Radeon x700 (256MB) video card. It runs Hellgate London fine on minimum settings, haven't had a chance to try it on anything higher yet. So I'm fairly certain these laptops would at least match my desktop, but the laptop will be replacing my desktop permanently. I realize upgrading my desktop would be cheaper, but I need the mobility of a laptop.

Look at my response to your other *cough* similar thread.

The Acer with an nvidia 8600 gsm card isn't in the same league as The Toshiba machines( x200 which has dual 8600gt'sin SLI or the x205 which has a single 8700Gt). Of these three the X200 scores the highest in terms of share graphic grunt.....
Although the machine with the 8700gt may do better on those games that don't support SLI.

Really the Acer isn't a gaming machine at all and fits more into the multimedia categoy. All the Toshibas are 17" Have you also considered the Dell xps M1530 great looking 15.4 "inch with Gddr3 8600Gt and it's in your price range? Take a look at this table to see where the 8600gsm card ( in the acer) fits in. you'll see that it's well down the list nearer the older Nvidia 7600 and Amd x1600 cards in terms of performance.
Is the Toshiba x200 worth the extra $1000 ? you betcha it is!!!!
