i want to upgrade my m9700 just a few simple things.

i want to change my optics drive so i can have a dvd burner, and a few other things but i have some questions.

should i just get the drive from alienware?

should i upgrade my video card to, 2 gs7900 or get 1 new better one.

also would it be possible to fit a amd turion x2 on my motherboard?

i don't really have a budget just want to get this stuff done but at the cheapest price possible. should i go on newegg and buy the stuff off there or contact alienware direct?

the highest card for the m9700 is the 512 mb 7900GS... you cant go any higher... call alienware for prices on the 512mb 7900gs and the optical drives if they still carry those items...i have heard reports that some items are not carried anymore by alienware...

Sorry for the late post but also to add that Alienware generally has very decent prices if you wich to upgrade through them. I don't know if Isaac will approve but in pretty much every case it is cheaper to purchase a base model laptop and then have alienware upgrade it for you afterwards as they charge a far cheaper price for the components after you do your initial build customization. For example when I purchased my m9700 with dual 256mb cards it would cost you about $400 for the second GPU when purchasing a brand new lappy. But if you were to purchase with a single GPU and then upgrade to a second one it would only cost you $250 for the second 7900go GS.

The one thing I will offer up however is you may want to save your money and purchase a newer alienware that supports both the intel C2D processors and the newer Nvidia mobile architecture so that you can upgrade your CPU and GPU to future models. As it stands the m9750 is upgradeable to the 8700 series and I'm also to think that it can be upgraded to future iterations such as the 8800go series as well since they use the same architecture as the 7950gtx's and 8700m's. Either you keep your m9700 or sell it. My plan is to use my tax refund to possibly get myself a new m17x. Keep my m9700 as a "mostly" portable computer for school.
