Problem with IAA's idechndr.sys

Hi People,

My machine would not boot this morning. It wouldn't find the windos partition until I did a chkdsk /r. My machine rebooted after that.

I reinstalled IAA and since then my machine would BSOD (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) pointing to idechndr.sys whenever I'd run a Norton scan, chkdsk, etc ....

I have seen on google that this may be a typical problem for the 845MP platform, so I rolled back the drivers to the original windows (I couldn't uninstall IAA without the blue screen), and was finally able to uninstall.

My machine runs fine now, but I don't know what happened. Maybe a bad sector that was fixed with the chkdsk, but I don't know why the IAA turned bad.

Is there an expert that can shed some light ?

PS: I have a Hitachi 7k60 on order, hopefully before my drive crashes again

Is there a way (besides reformatting) to find out if a drive is bad or not ? I may have to do it anyway, since they won't (not Sager ) replace the drive before I try a format.

In your opinion, would you have confidence in a drive that failed once ?

The IAA problem came from a version I downloaded from Intel's website. I reinstalled the version that came on the driver CD and that cured it once and for all.

I also ran my Toshiba drive without IAA and was going crazy with the ticking noise
