Gateway ML3109 update

After installing the core 2 duo T7200 and using it for several weeks now... I am quite happy I did the upgrade. Before, when I would boot up the laptop, it always seemed to be bogged down by the anti-virus (I use McAfee because its free with Comcast)... Now, with the T7200, it runs much faster and much smoother... its as pleasant to use as my desktop.

In the last thread about the ML3109, Syrtus had mentioned that he upgraded his Gateway to 4gb ram, although the specs say 2gb max; and that his ML3109 recognized a bit over 3gb of the 4gb upgrade.
I looked on the crucial website for ram info for the ML3109, and discovered this little tidbit that I was unaware of:

Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?

A: Possibly How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

The interesting thing is that according to ATI, the chipset in the ML3109 should support 4gb ram, but Gateway officially pegs the specs on the ML3109 as 2gb ram max.

Apparently, not only does the ML3109 support FSB greater than 533mhz, it also supports 4gb ram, with the limiting factor being the OS, and not the chipset.

Is your laptop's fan always ON?

I performed an upgrad on an MX3101b (same mobo and chassi as the ML3109) from a celeron M420 to a T2500 and the fan does not stop spinning from the moment I turn the laptop ON.
