$50 bucks says you get a Vista computer.

lol, i hope not! that would so screw me! i tried vista with the upgrade, not terrible, but ultimately switched back due to a lot of compatibility issues. boy i hope not. honestly i'd be happy with a system identical to mine that worked! this is one powerful laptop. even the tech was telling me that the guys he works with snatched these up to make gaming laptops out of em!

I agree. You're probably going to get a Vista computer. I think your best bet is to demand a refund since they dont produce computers with windows xp anymore and buy a business class laptop (m90 or something that does have win xp)

so i can use the xp disc that came with the 1705 huh? that would at least help. the refund is also an option. i guess i'll have to wait and see what they end up trying to give me. the 1720 doesnt seem like it would be too bad, except for the graphics card mainly.

and the fact that the 1720 doesnt have a dvi port

ok, i finally got my order number for the replacment. i've got a few questions i was hoping somone here could help with. it shows <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 60px">1</TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 80px">GY020 </TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 520px">X7900,XPS-M1730 </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

as one of the options on the laptop, the first actually. i know it will be an xps 1730, but does this mean i'm getting the extreme processor x7900? also one more i'm not real sure about:
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 60px">1</TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 80px">HR105 </TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 520px">Module,Card,Graphics IUPGA5D,G84,SLI </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

is this the sli 8700 config?

the rest of the system looks like 4gigs of ram, and what appears to be a 200 gig 7200 hard drive with this:
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 60px">1</TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 80px">UK225 </TD><TD class=gridCell style="WIDTH: 520px">Module,Solid State Drive,64 Serial Ata,2.5,Samsung,INS </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
i think this is the solid state add on. of which i'm not real sure what it does. i did get vista, but based on all the upgrades that i'm getting, i'll either trudge thru vista (which is still the devil! lol) or try and install xp somehow. i'll post up some pics as soon as i get the lappy!

lol sorry. I really hope you do get it cause that would be once sweet system but I bet it was a "mistake" and it will get canceled. if you do get it you are the luckiest one yet. I think RickyBronco was the first one to get a M1730 exchange from a E1705 and I was the second by u have the best system by far, if you get it that is. Be sure to let us know.
Yeah I hate to crush your dreams, but back when I had the 9300 and they had to replace it, they ended up going with a kick ass E1705 all the goodies loaded in.....well a couple days later they decided it was too good for me and gave me a piece of crap worse than my system.

In that case, you'll definitely be getting that system. Mine didn't ship, but was processing when it changed.

You're a lucky man!!!

wow im impressed! it shows my est delivery date of 1-31 to 2-04. carrier and tracking show temp unavailable but shows shipped date of 1-28-08. man im getting excited over this one! ill tell you what though, i went round and round with them over this. mainly because no one had any info on it, i was shocked! i kept getting the whole "the system will be equal or greater. i just wanted to make sure i didnt get a 1720!

I have a question for you.

I just put in a system exchange order, because I am having random restarts (third problem with this E1705)

they told me I had to send it in, and that with expeditad shipping I would get a "same or better configuration" system 7-8 days later.

Is this what you guys did? did you have to send yours in first? and if so how long after you had it picked up until the status updated?
