XPS support kinda no clue on how to fresh install vista.

How can support NOT know the most important step??

Ended up googling wtf the problem was, and solved it myself.

because it had the 7900gtx which wasnt available until later of that lifecycle, my replacement was delayed, but came the week the 7900gtx announcement was made. If it was a refurb, they couldnt have sold a new xps and have it turned around, then reconditioned within 7 days.

OMG!!!! i'm not sure exactly what i've done and in what order, i used the guide to reinstalling xp on the sticky here, and used all the advice that i have received and viola! i have windows xp running on my 1730! the one thing i did do that may have saved me was unplug the first hard drive that had vista installed. i left the second hard drive, and changed the bios so that the second hard drive is the first to boot, the unplugged one is at the bottom of the list. made the iso burned the dvd and boom! i'm downloading all the rest of the updates now. all my probs with transferiing files are gone! man this thing is quick now! and i'm able to use all the programs i had before. i use framxp pro, and i've got soo much ram, it says that i still have 100 percent available even when running programs! its awesome! i've got the quickset going, and the logitech lcd is working too! thanks again to all that have helped me in this process i wont forget it!

Congrats XP is soooo much better than Vista in my opinion, Now get some imaging software to copy your drive so you dont have to go through this again.

yeah it uses sata's. although now the only bad part is that i have a solid state drive that i'm not using. BUT i cant really get rid of it either, xps support said i have to be able to boot into vista in order to get hardware support. bummer. oh well i'm happy now!

Do you have it running now? You can't boot off the solid state drive?

it was running. i'm having the motherboard replaced this week, it wont boot to any screen at all. i can boot off the solid state, but it has vista, so i'm just not using it. i need to mirror the drive with acronis to an external, then mirror xp back onto it i guess. i'm just waiting to get it back running again right now though.

ok, so they replaced my motherboard today. funny thing, xp wouldnt work anymore, it kept bsod'ing. sooooooo, i decided to boot up using the vista hard drive. well, to say the least, i'm using vista now! lol, i dont know if maybe the usb ports were bad, or what, but i was able to transfer all my files with no problems! vista is acting super quick, and i've had no issues whatsoever! i'm very pleased right now. of course this could all change tommorow! but i'm hoping that my problems are all fixed up now. thanks again to all who have helped me in the "journey". now to finish up with the installation of my programs and on i go! i've still got to clone the drive later on just in case. the good thing now is that i can actually use this cool hard drive that apparantly cost sooo much. lol, the tech that came out today was telling me how jealous he was of my system. said it was the first of its kind he had seen up close.

Wow, I talked to a rep here in the good ol USA.... she told me that getting a 1730 is not even an option. I explained that I know it's not a unique situation and that the 1705's must have a universal problem. She said they would take my 1705 in and fix it or give me a 1720. I went up and down about the dvi port and she said I should go to Radio Shack for a usb dongle....(is there such a thing)

I also explained that a full refund of my money had been offered. That seemed to spark something with her. She asked who said that.. bla bla...

Her supervisor is going to be calling me now. If anyone of you guys wants to PM me your case number that would really help a lot. Help a brotha out.. Just something to give as reference, because they are acting like this is unheard of.

Yeah I think some policy has changed in the last week because I have the same exact issue. They told me I was getting a 1730, but they just shipped me another E175 this morning with a WORSE video card than what I paid for in the first place. We will see how the BBB deals with this though.
Quite sure that the policy has changed. Sad news for many. I don't think there is any way around it because they are really cracking down. I also think it's ridiculous that they say you should have to pay for something when their POS broke down
post #117 of 123
Well, I wrote an email to a VP and this is why the last person called me she said. I'm waiting for her supervisor to call... if nothing comes from that I have in writing that they will give me a refund... Gateway here I come.

too bad really, I have never had anything other than a dell laptop. Ohwell.

Man that sucks for you guys, I really feel for you. I cant believe they send you another E1705, c0ax, and they even downgraded you. That so goes against their own policy. I sure you guys get it all fixed. I know there is no way I would allow that to happen to me.

Hey guys. I'm also getting a replacement. I sent the request in about 4 or 5 days ago and i was told to go to

1. Log in
2. Click "My Order Status"
3. Click "My Support" and select "Service Call Status"
4. Enter your Dispatch Reference # or Service Tag # to obtain a current status.

All i see there is

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="gridCell" style="width: 150px;">WY158</td><td class="gridCell" style="width: 450px;">BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP)..., NOTEBOOK..., CMER, T7300, 2.0, 1700</td><td class="gridCell">1</td></tr><tr><td class="gridCellAlt" style="width: 150px;">0797C</td><td class="gridCellAlt" style="width: 450px;">CUSTOMER KIT..., DOCUMENTATION..., AIRBORNE...</td><td class="gridCellAlt">1</td></tr></tbody></table>
I'm assuming this means i'm getting a T7300 which means it's a 1720?
Where do i go for full specs or do i have to call them.
