Yeah I got screwed. I was in the same place. Asked for DVI and I got a 1720. Called dell back like 10 times. Said it was not possible to get an xps from an inspiron. I gave up. This was about 2 months worth of calls too.

Just tell them you are tired of having them "fix" the problem to no avail and would like a new system. I believe you have the M170 so they dont make it anymore so they will give you a "free upgrade" as they call it. So you should get the M1730.

@ McFly

Was the rep you talked to in the US or India? If in the US how did you get in contact with him. I can't get anyone other than some jerk from India... and they all seem to be that way.

What kind of support do you have? At home or Complete care?

Also what department? Home, small business, etc?

From what I understand, home users will get support from india UNLESS you have XPS and small business. Though this is a maybe, i'm not completely sure.

I went to a Spanish Dell Support Site and I did'nt know it. I was cussing at the Mexican so bad because he could'nt speak English. LOL!

It starts from india, but if there's no resolution made, and customer escalates the issue, it goes to resolution people in the US.

oh the problems i'm now having with this new xps! i soooo dont want it to, as i really like the config, and the computer is growing on me! although at this size i dont have much choice! lol. i left it on overnight, nothing running except a download, woke up this afternoon to "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" second one in one day! now back to customer support. dang the luck.

I have at home. Thats what comes with a new laptop I think. I bought it through work and it's a big company. But I have never talked to anyone in the U.S.

India support is iffy at best, but they set me up to get my system exchanged. Only I have no idea of any info after that. I keep talking to them making sure they know I need a DVI port and all they say is I'll make a note but they can't change anything until the new laptop goes into the being built segment. There were real fast with the video card and motherboard replacement though.

I always fresh install whenever I get a dell laptop. Give it a try.

I was saying for those who got the crappy warranty.

Bussiness warranty is usually US based, especially if it's Gold support.

Gold is much better than home/xps support.

One more thing for all the guys that got a 1730 exchange.... Are you sure it's not a refurb.. there are a ton of them in the outlet.

The company I work for is a Dell solution provider. So back before they told me what system I was gonna get I emailed our contact to see if he could get me an update. He assigned my case number to some Consumer solution specialist who called me right away. After I got my system he said I could contact him for the next 30 days with any issues I have. So since I have his 1800 and direct number and email its easy for me to have things taken care of. I got really lucky.

99% of system replacements are refurbished. They are almost never making a new laptop for a customer replacement.
