8887 and DX9?

Has anyone run DX9 successfully on their 8887? I'm having a problem with it.

I just got Freelancer, which unfortunately requires DX9. After I install DX9, my computer will hard freeze playing cutscenes during games. For example, I can't get through the opening of Freelancer (normally it freezes around "We're from Medical. Is anyone hurt", however, I have gotten to the bar for the first mission twice). In addition, games that were fine before (ex. C+C Generals) freeze during cutscenes as well. Restoring to pre-DX9 install will make the other games stable again.

Freelancer installs and runs fine on another machine.

The laptop is running XP SP1, with the latest drivers from sagernotebook.com (they're newer than the ones on the CD). I've reformatted and reinstalled XP, and I reinstalled the drivers in the order from the manual. I'm also up to date with Windows Update (there was one update for Indeo codec freezing, but no joy). I also experimented with newer audio/video drivers from ATI and Realtek.

Given the way it's freezing (hard lock, no keyboard response to Ctrl-Alt-Del) and the fact that turning sound hardware acceleration down increase the time to freeze, I'm thinking it's DX9. Does anyone have DX9 running correctly?

I've got the same problem.

Wish I had an answer, but you're not alone.

I've tried the new sound drivers from Realtek. There wasn't any change in DX9. DX8 might have improved slightly, but I didn't run long enough to be sure.

The bug report is working its way through Freelancer tech support now. I'm thinking it will move upstream to DX9 sometime soon.

I have the same problem. It's driving me crazy. Only I had this problem with DX8 also.

Get the catalyst 3.2

I would recommend this driver because it is performing beautifully!!

Tested with most of the games wisefish mentioned pluf BF1942 etc. and it works great!!

I think I've fixed the problem (more testing is needed). I had to disable hyperthreading in the BIOS and reinstall windows.

Anyway, right now it "appears" stable. I'll run some more tests now.

Of course, when I reinstalled windows, I had the MP3 player in (arrrgh).
