No more M1710?

Thread Starter
Just went to Dell's site looking for a M1710 for a friend. Sadly, it appears to be no longer for sale except on the outlet.

The end of an era. . .

I still LOVE my 1710!!

Yeah I still love mine as well. Still waiting for dell to release an 8800 series lappie before I upgrade. I mean if I wanted the 8700 badly enough I'd just upgrade my m9750.

Long live the king (m1710), the new king (M1730) blows

I always wanted a M1710 but never got one. I just got the M1730 and I am loving it. Cant wait for dell to release the 8800s so I can get one of those.

He he people say the M1730 blows, couldn´t disagree more. I thought so too before I actually bought one. How about Crysis at Medium settings custom config and with HDR lighting with frames ranging from 30-40 fps at 1680x1050?

Gears of War all maxed 1920x1200 35-40 fps

Lost Planet Demo DX10 (Badly optimized) 1440x900 all options maxed except HDR at Medium 30-50 fps depending on situation.

This with my 8700m GT in SLI overclocked to 769/1566/900 and in Vista, yeah in Vista I can get even better framerates in XP, haven´t installed it yet.

So far from what I have seen the 8700m GT in SLI is not that crippled like people have said not when I can run recent games in very high resolutions and with smooth framerates and without skimping too much on graphical settings. It all has to do with proper setup with drivers and proper SLI config. So in my opinion the XPS M1730 does not blow at all.

STALKER at 1920x1200 Dynamic Lighting Medium Settings frames 40-50 fps.

How do you overclock each video card in vista? I tried and when I run GPU-z, only one vid card is overclocked and the other is still at stock. Also how do you get the temps of each card?

8700's are not impressive cards. Maybe having SLI is impressive but with a 3grand+ price tag it doesn't compare at all to the newer 8800s. I mean 7950 GTX SLI (1 gig dedicated)> 8700 GT SLI (512 dedicated) . That right there says everything you really need to know about the 8700. And about a week ago Alienware was giving away the second 7950 for free. lol.

The 1710 though no longer available as "new" is still a great machine. The 1730 also has the potential to be great. A buddy of mine has the 1710 with 7950GTX and that thing just rocks!

of course I still see the M1710 in the Dell Outlet, and the Canadian Dell Outlet have a few reasonalby priced ones as well.

Yup they have put the E1705 and M1710 to rest. The only thing I would love to see, which Im almost positive will never happen is being able to put a 8xxx card in my laptop. Which really sucks because I sold my XPS Gen3 Desktop which I had put an 8800GTS in @ 650\1600\1900, but i couldnt pass up the offer i had got on it, plus i was bottlenecked bad on that system P4 3.4 EE HT was the highest cpu it could take because of the chipset on the mobo, Even with a 7950 my laptop killed my desktop in almost every game except for crysis and airborne. So I would love to see G80M for now my DTR.
