my 3790 sager laptop hard drive needs to be replaced can I use this hard drive?

What you need to do is pull the drive form your notebook and see if its 2 rows of pins. That is an IDE drive. If it has flat connectors, it is SATA.

It should be but I am not 100% sure. I think its just a faster IDE.

EDIT: Yes, they are pretty much the same and will work.
