Sony VIAO VGN-SZ220 battery issue

Hello, I've had this problem for a while and it's driving me nuts! I have a Sony VIAO VGN-SZ220 laptop computer with XP Home. I formatted the hard drive (to get rid of all the unwanted software) and in the process of rebuilding I noticed the battery wouldn't charge anymore. So I let it run on battery until it ran the battery down...eventually it drained the battery and now the battery light just flashes fast and it won't charge it. So I thought maybe the battery was bad, so I bought another battery and it did the same thing...worked until I ran it all the way down. The new battery was never over 10% charged when I installed it. It'll run on a battery until the battery is drained, never recharging (even though the icon in the system tray says charging). What am I missing? Also, shouldn't the battery status show up in the BIOS? Since the rebuild it's not showing up in the BIOS? Should I try to reinstall the BIOS? I've searched high and low for a solution. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I've had the same problem for some time now. Sony support is greedy and not helpful. I was asked to clean the battery contacts with pencil eraser and reset the BIOS settings. Nothing worked..

Do you see the battery status in your BIOS? My computer appears to not detect the battery so it can't charge it.

I don't see the battery status in the bios. The battery LED indicator (2nd from the left) flashes in orange. Power meter window pops up after clicking on the battery charging icon. I can see the battery icon there. The charging symbol is superimposed over the red cross on the battery. I also tried reinstalling the notebook utilities and a few other original drivers from Vaio support website.

If its a bios problem we would have to either reinstall the original or find a suitable update..

I've tried new batteries already. Most recently, I took a motherboard from another (damaged though) VGN-SZ220/PCG-61L1 notebook computer and swapped out mine. Well, it charges batteries now, but that's it...no display or hard drive...this is could be because it's from a damaged notebook computer though. Now I know the reason it doesn't charge batteries anymore has something to do with my motherboard. Is there anything on the motherboards I can swap out to fix this or do I have to replace the entire motherboard? Can this be software related, could it have something to do with the chipset driver? Thanks for any advise.

I am afraid that once the motherboard is fried, the whole thing needs to be replaced. Board circuitry alone is hard to find. Good lucks at finding another used system where the motherboard still functions

cheers ...
