Problems OC with 169.04 and .09 drivers

First of all I would like to thank the creator of these drivers just awsome.

The only thing I am trying to figure out is why I can't overclock my 8400m GS with any program. It has been this way since i bought the laptop with every driver I have downloaded.

My system is from HP if that makes any diff.

Thanks, and keep up the speed

Sorry, just added my specs in my signature. Still trying to find my way around the forum

169.09 won't let you overclock period in software. But you should be able to overclock fine with 169.04.

The first thing I would suggest is reinstalling your drivers by following the guide I posted HERE. You should be able to fully overclock the card without any problems (I researched your card+laptop and people are doing it fine) with RivaTuner.

Rivatuner? isn't better with ATItool? or perhaps simpler?

What he means is, that in his research he found people were able to overclock just fine with Rivatuner and the HP laptop with 169.04 drivers. It should also overclock fine with ATITool - however his research on the matter didn't yield any information about using ATITool on this machine. So basically anything should technically be able to overclock it.

Just stay away from drivers newer than 169.04. 169.04 is the newest driver that supports overclocking still... anything higher and you will be out of luck for now.

well i seem to have issues with the .04 overclocking the memory, and i cant get the AntiAlaising menu to work under the tray either. Performance seems fine, but it looks like i get artifacts under some new games.

but your laptop is hp or dell?

Just to follow up, have tried to use ATItools, and riva tuner, and even NTune....and still no love. Have tried normal NV drivers and the NBF drivers(many of them). Im starting to wonder if HP builds something into the system to prevent overclock.....I can deal with the 400 core.....just the 400 Memory is bugging the livin crap out of me ......But still....you can't beat the performance of the drivers!

Are you removing the drivers as directed in the thread I linked to you previously?

As I said, in looking around about YOUR laptop, people aren't having any problems overclocking with any of those programs you tried. It's something specific to your system.

Well I have always followed that thread but no luck.....Then just decided to give it one more go and boom!....finally got the system to overclock! Thanks again! don't know what was screwy though

good for you I wish MY dell was so proficient...

now it's my system that won't let me overclock.. atitool says : "he video card you selected does not seem to be used by windows, visual testing has been disabled, go to display properties, settings and enable the output..." ??? what the hell?

yea, i got that error too. (forced me to use rivatuner) Kinda sucks, the only thing I can thing of is reinstalling ati tools and see what happens

ok successfully overclocked to 515mhz! wow that's much XD now I have to check temperature, but I'm worried about artifacts, since atitool does not work.
