Problems with area51m 766 wireless signal problems

I have an intel 2915 abg internal wireless card and I get horrible wireless reception. To qualify horrible, I get about 25 feet worth of 1 floor travel, outside of that I lose signal. I decided to do the DD-WRT upgrade to my linksys router, I'm transmitting at 100tx and still can only travel no more than 25 feet indoors.

Obviously it isn't the router, so now I'm looking at my machine. I just ordered another 2915 and an external linksys pcmcia card, but I'm trying to narrow this down. Should I try some sort of different internal antenna? Any thoughts or ideas would be great, I've had it with this poor reception

Thanks!

Are you able to access the wireless card? It's possible one of the antenna have come unplugged, but it might just be a crappy card.

Might be cheapest just to buy a usb wireless dongle to match the router.

It's always had poor reception like this

I believe I had an atheros in there too?

I'll pop the keyboard off tonight and look at the wireless connections, as I'm not 100% because I haven't checked them ... I'll spend whatever $, I just want to get this fixed

Is there a tool that I can purchase to test and show a reading of the signal strength around my area?

Ok,

I ended up buying this signal meter (because it had better signal measurement resolution 8 bars, and most others had 6)

I also bought an external antenna adapter, and external antenna for my internal mini pci card from ebay. Hopefully this will help someone else if they have to go through this BS.

Hope it works... Seems to me I do recall reading some complaints about the internal wireless on the old 766. I didn't have a wireless modem when I had mine...
