XPS1530 WLED confirmed

Friends,

I have confirmation that the XPS1530 will ship with W L.E.D backlight up to 1680 x 1050 resolutions.

I just received an XPS 1530 with the CCFL backlight and called Dell to return it as it is no way as bright as my MacBook Pro with L.E.D lighting.

The CSO from Dell told me that the L.E.D is coming out any day and that he would arrange for a new unit to be built with the L.E.D backlighting.

Ship date is within 2 days.

He also had a technical Officer to call me to confirm.

wow, that's awesome. so how does that work, you just send in your current laptop and they send you a new one? I'm guessing all you have to do it pay the difference.

I bought it within the 15 day Total Satisfaction Guarantee, thus I can return the notebook for a refund.

That is when I found out about L.E.D backlighting for this particular model.

that's a great deal. I should have bought that satisfaction guaranteething. I didn't even know they offered it, or if its even available in the states

yeah I had my vostro replaced with the wSXGA screen for free took a 3 day turnaround too. Its not a purchase, its part of the deal with your purchase, you have 21 days actually to return the unit or contact the return department and work out an exchange. The business purchases get like 30 days I believe.

what if i just want to exchange it because i could get it at a better price. Is that possible?

I don't think the LED screen is going to be available in the higher 1680 x 1050 resolution. Previous information and the M1530 service manual specs say 1440 x 900 for the LED option. Dell customer service reps are often mistaken about things. But if you do get an LED screen with the higher resolution, let us know.

I'm a a 1680x1050 fan,but it wouldn't really bother me going to WXGA+ for the led screen, the original dell dse manual stated that the led screen had much better viewing angles as well as 50 nits more brightness, which is a good thing as long as the colours aren't washed out.

chrisflyer......look forward to seeing your comments

I dunno--I'm really liking my 1530 as-is...

I don't think I want to go through all the trouble just to get the LED-backlight.
Yes, it would increase on-battery time a bit, and yes, it would be a bit brighter than it currently is (which is plenty bright for me), but...I'm not sure the hassle is worth the incremental improvement.

The improved-angle feature doesn't much matter to me; when I use my laptop screen, I'm basically always sitting right in front of it anyway.

im hoping its available by the time I order my 1530 (any day now, just waiting on my check to come with the money to buy it). brighter will be nice, yeah, and dealing with my continually progressive backlight failing in my current notebook it'd be nice to not ahve to deal with a CCFL backlight anymore

Now THAT'S a good reason to get the LED back lighting: to increase screen-lighting life...I hadn't thought of that...

I'm waiting for the WLED screen and the Penryn 45 nm processors before I pull the trigger. Both options together should offer outstanding battery life and performance. Hopefully these upgrades will be up on Dell's site in the next week or so.

Good luck.

Just for benchmarking purposes--sort of get a baseline:

With my 6-cell battery in, I get around 3 1/2 hours of use.

With my 9-cell in (man that thing's huge), I get 4 1/2 to 5 hours.

Both numbers just sort of basic use, nothing stressful on the processor.

I had to send my current notebook in once just before the 1 year warranty ended for failing backlight, and now its failing again. theyre a pain to deal with

Seems Dell told me a fib.

I have returned the notebook for a refund.

He stll states that the LED is coming out soon; he just needed more time to sort me out.

I did not want to wait.
