XPS M1210 Lid Closed Black Screen Problem

Every time I close my laptop, when I open it up the screen stays black. The computer is on and running however. It doesn't matter how long or short I have the laptop closed, it always does this. In order to get my screen back, I have to turn off the laptop then turn it back on.

The media button lights do not turn off when I close the laptop. I have it set to do nothing when the lid is closed. Fn+F8 does nothing. I couldn't find LidBehavior in the registries. I am running Windows XP.

I have tried a bunch of things, but at the moment I cannot remember them. So please, any suggestions welcome, I will let you know if I tried it already.

Does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem?

turn off standby and set the option to do nothing when lid closed in power options
