Zoid
It's a leetle different this time for ATI. The ATI dual GPU card actually has 2 GPUs on a single PCB. The NVIDIA version (9800GX2) is the same as the 7950gx2...2 8800 cards slapped together to make a single uBer-sized brick.

The 3870x2 is currently the single-fastest card on the market. 9800GX2 is not released.

The pic/charts I posted above were tests of 2 x 3870x2 for some quad-fire action. But the single card outscores the quad version in all synthetic and gaming benchies. Bad drivers...now that sounds familiar.

For whatever reason, I am finding it very hard to resist the urge of buying one of those when they finally come out.

Would it be ridiculously stupid for me to sell my ultra and buy one a 3870x2when it comes out? Or should I wait for a true 9 series nvidia card or just leave what I have alone.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you can sell your Ultra on Craigslist for $375-$450...I'd say absolutely (unless you play Crysis)

NO! There are zero performance specs available for the 9800GX2.

There are, however, reports of a voltage offset bug with the Nvidia GPUs (binned for 9600GT and 9800GX2). Hence the new "March" release date.

This delay should give Nvidia time-a-plenty to work out any bugs.

But for some reason...I can't get that "lead balloon" that was the 7950gx2 out of my head (thanks Boyd ).

Didn't know you started a new log!

If you want it, get it. If the motherboard I wanted was available today, I'd buy the 3870x2 or EVGA 8800GT or GTS (and step-up to 9800gx2). If EVGA didn't have the step-up, hands down the 3870x2.

Decisions decisions........

thats why i have you guys here. to help me make a decision.

I just read your log...you want 2 x 3870X2. It would be bada$$ if the stinking drivers were out to make it work, and make a solid decision.

That was my last one as well, having been a lifetime (to that point) ATI man.

I jumped onto a 7900 after that, and never looked back,

I will probably never go back to ATI even this one

I will wait for the GX2 and probably go Sli as well
