I just installed Verizon DSL for my wife's parents. Did everything I was supposed to, and it didn't work. Finally called Tech Support and was told by the Verizon person that the Verison software was really bad and to remove it all and let Windows XP 'discover' it and do its thing. I did, and it worked.
HA! I love this. I have SBC-Yahoo and while it did install without a hitch, I quickly removed all the garbage and let my Linksys router handle the PPPoE connection. Works beautifully still and I do not have to put up with the "Connection Manager" and all the other rubbish.
I wish DSL/Cable broadband providers had a "You are smarter than us" package that tech-savvy people could get. Just turn the line ON, give me a static IP, and I'll handle the rest.
Don't need webspace or e-mail or any of that... just a static IP and some bandwidth. Save the colorful fluff for the AOLers.
