DV6000 Mini PCI wireless adapter disappeared

Hey guys,

I have a DV6338SE Laptop. last ngiht I went to bed and left my computer downloading some stuff, when I woke up this morning everything was working 100% fine. I figured I'd do a reboot before I had to head into work. After I rebooted Windows says I'm not connected to any network. So I check the on/off switch on the front of my laptop, it's on but the light is yellow instead of blue. Weird. So I go into the device manager and te MINI PCI card isn't listed under network adapters. I take out the card reinstall it, no removed or inserted hardware sounds. Tried reinstalling drivers etc etc, the works and nothing happened.

I call HP they take me through a serious of BS steps which I did before calling (and I told them I did everything) they still insisted that I follow them. About 45minutes go by and they finally give up and say that I need to send in my laptop to get repaired. It's still covered under warranty but there's a little problem. I bought this DV6338SE laptop with a white LCD cover/bezel. I've since changed it to black as the white was staining. I was wondering, if I send in my laptop will it void my warranty? Also I don't want to send in my HDD with the laptop am I able to do this? I need it to work from.

Any know of any solution to the mini pci card not showing up?

This model may be covered by the bulletin HP Warranty enhancement. The link is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_UKEN. Be firm even though some of the early levels will deny its existance. This model has definite problems. HP should fix this for free.

You might want to check this list too. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...87277_identify
Since there are different models listed.

Your model is within the range listed with this potential problem, but of course since you are still under original warranty anyway, no "biggie".

Even thoiugh a pain in the butt, yes, sending it in is the right decision!

As far as retaining the hard drive, I would double check with HP support, but I believe that the answer is yes, that you can retain your hard drive...but again, double-check to make sure!

They should not need your hard drive to repair your system. This is a HUGE HUGE HUGE problem with these newer HP models and they are even taking back notebooks that are within 1 year out of their factory warranty and replacing the motherboards.

I have seen units after they came back from the factory and they do almost always erase all of your personal information. I would back up whatever important stuff you have just incase.
