flickering monitor on 8890?

My monitor has started flickering every now and then on my 8890 and it's starting to freak me out because it has happened a few times now. It seems like it usually only happens when the computer comes out of standby mode or after it starts up, but I also might only be noticing it at these times. It usually stops after a minute or so and goes back to normal. Has anyone else had this problem? I've had the system about a month now and have only noticed this happening in the last couple weeks.

Monitor (via DVI/VGA out) or the integrated LCD display? If the latter, SXGA or UXGA? 15" or 16"? Approximately how old?

More details would be required.

i'm having the same problem skronk, it's on my LCD UXGA 15" actuary.

this is why i'm RMA'ing my notebook in the summer. the tech guys said that shouldn't be happenning, and they want to see it first hand. i don't know how to make ith appen on command though, it happens intermittently

Just FYI, the 8890s have a known problem when switching from one resolution to another. If a game/screensaver takes the LCD into 800x600 mode, for example, there will be extreme flickering of the LCD for several minutes after the original resolution is restored. The latest BOIS (1.0.9-T1) seems to make this even worse, at least for me. I am currently using the plain 1.0.3 BIOS, and the flickering seems to be somewhat reduced. This may not have anything to do with your troubles, but I figured it was worth a mention. This is a known, verified Sager problem with no sure fire fix yet, at least as far as I know.

It happens on the LCD display...I have the 15" UXGA. It's only about a month old.

this isn't from resolution change, it's a problem with the level of hte backlight fluctuating, at least that's the case in my problem. it's almost as if there is a loose connection as was suggested to me in my own thread

That was happening to me a while ago. I'd use fn+F9/F10 to change the brightness down and up until it'd stop flickering. It got annoying, but I haven't noticed it recently. Maybe it calms down after a while...

yea, mine hasn't flickered today at all. the brightness control doesn't remedy it when it's happening though

i found that just closing it and reopening it slowly and steadly works well...

be sure not to knock it around a lot, like, from front to back on its hinges
