DV6775 SE downgrade to XP...gaming questions

Thread Starter
I was thinking of doing the downgrade to XP 'cause I want some better performance for gaming and I heard XP can do this. First of all, is it true that if I can run a game well on Vista, it will run better on XP?
Some specs on my laptop:

Intel Centrino Duo 1.67 GhZ
3GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600GS M (258MB dedicated)

Would it be worth it to downgrade to Vista to enhance gaming or will it pretty much do nothing. I think this because back in the day before Vista came out, I had a laptop with XP, with almost the same specs except 2GB ram, same video card, but older model and ran company of heroes with high settings like a dream. But now, I have better settings and hardware and I have to turn a lot of the settings down. Will XP solve this for me?

well ive used both xp and vista on my laptop. to be honest with you a lot of times my games ran the same. im not ragging on you when i say it may hvae something to do wit your cpu. make sure you have your windows vista set to use the full power. a lot of times vista will set the cpu to use half the cpu speed and therefor preserve the battery longer. if you do have yourself set at full power and you are still having problems i think it may be your cpu. if you dont have anything of value or dont need your laptop on a dialy basis (eg job nees or other computer based things you do) and you can find drivers for all of your hardware in xp (when i say all of your hardware i mean all. if you dont have the driver for your hardware in xp then you will have major problems. a lot of the new computers use proprietery hardware. aka hardware for vista only. i dont think you will have trouble with that. but its worth a look) so if you have the drivers and the time. i would give it a shot. why not? then you can see for yourself and tell al lof us if you do get any more power.

No question that Vista is a more demanding OS, and does take a bit more overhead, however, with 3gb ram, that should not be a big problem.

This is "do-able", however some folks have definitely experienced headaches getting everything in XP to mesh with their hardware in these new notebooks.

You may notice some degree of "improvement", but then again, maybe not so much so. It is a personal decision as to whether the effort is worth it.

Personally, I like Vista, and keep in mind that future gaming will become increasingly dependent on Vista...

Another possibility, if you have the hard drive space to spare, is to go for a dual-boot system.
