Some M15X M17X Questions

Thread Starter
For about a week, Ive been musing a new laptop. I have an m9700 now that is unable to handle Crysis and COD4 at the settings Im accustomed.

How much more $ will the base of the m17x be over the m15?

Could the m15 and m17 handle 800 mhz ram?

When will the m17x and additional configs for the m15 be available (I remember hearing that two case options would be available the ripley and the normal alienware look with the gills)? Think there will be more colors?

When will the penryns be available for the alienware laptops?

How much more battery life will the m15 have than the m17?

the 15 or the m17x dont use the 800 mhz ram since the santa rosa runs at 667mhz...and crysis is a bad game to see if a laptop is up to pare since an 8800 cards have a hard time with it... also the m15x or the m17x right now dont have the penryns in them it may be awhile before they show up... alienware is not always the first to the line with new hardware they take their time and test these new items to make sure they are going to holdup and work... also on the crysis make sure you have the modified drivers instead of the alienware stock drivers and this will help ur performance...

On the Alienware site it says the CPU is 800 mhz:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz (4MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7800 2.6GHz (4MB Cache 800MHz FSB) [+$250 or $8/mo.]
Intel® Core™ 2 X7900 2.8GHz – Extreme Edition (4MB Cache 800MHz FSB) [+$650 or $20/mo.]

The CPUs run from 2.4Ghz to 2.8Ghz, the Front Side Bus is 800Mhz, the RAM is 667Mhz.

my bad i put 667 mhz for the front side bus... yeah it is 800 mhz but the ram is only 667mhz..

So we could upgrade the RAM to 800mhz, correct?
Is there anyother components that will not allow this?

even if you bought 800mhz ram it would be downclocked to 667mhz since the memory hub controller runs at 667mhz... so it would be wasting ur money...
