The time machine error....need help

Hi guys,

When time machine backup my mac today.
It's show "The Time Machine Error"
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory"

I'm sure my Ext-hard drive connected correctly, and have more than 300GB free space.
Please help me to fix this problem,

If you manually tell Time Machine to do a backup does it give you the same error?

If it keeps happening you might want to try formatting the drive you're using for backups.
