OK not sure if this will help anyone but here are the emails that I sent to my contact, lets call him Mr. X, in order to get my 8800 SLI.

Hello Mr. X,

I just checked the Dell website and I see you can now configure the M1730 with the 8800GTX SLI. So is that now an option?

Mr. McFly,
No sorry. It would not be possible to do another exchange at this time.

Mr. X,

Oh OK, then when would it be? Like I explained yesterday, even though I really love the system, it doesnt perform as well as my E1705 did. The same games I used to play on my E1705 do not run on this new laptop. They run choppy and freeze from time to time while playing for a couple seconds and then the game continues. So what do you suggest?

Mr. McFly,
I will send you the 8800 video on an exchange order. The card will ship directly to you. As this is not a customer replaceable item a tech will contact you to exchange the cards.

That is all really. I have been dealing with him for a couple weeks now and he has been very helpful and extremely nice. I really appreciate all of his help.

Mcfly, how long did it take from the initial replacement request to actually getting an order number? I've received a dispatch# but nothing is associated to it yet.

Any info would be helpful.

They agreed to do the system exchange on 12/31/07, a system was in production by 1/8/08 which was the 1720. was canceled that day and my M1730 went into production then. Shipped by 1/15 and I had it on 1/16.

Wow... going up from a Inspiron 1705 to a $4000 SLI 8800M GTX XPS M1730? Impressive! Looks like you got your money's worth from the warranty right there! And you do deserve being called a lucky bastard... with your recent streak of luck perhaps you should ride it out and go buy a $100 million powerball lottery ticket soon?

Yeah I sure am lucky. I paid 1900 for my E1705 and got 100 back cause it took them 2 months to built it cause of the 7800go issue. I dont even know where to buy the powerball tickets, Im in southern cali.

My order for the 8800M GTX SLI was canceled yesterday. So I emailed my rep and asked him what was going on. He told me he had to cancel the order cause he accidentally placed it through new parts and it should have been placed through refurbished parts. But he said not to worry that since they just started selling the parts I will get a new part and it should ship faster this way. Said it should go out by today and I should get it by Monday the latest.

Any toughts on flashing-to-xps-bios and installing THE BEAST CARDS in 1720?
the 1720 chasis wont be able to fit the sli 88's

its not like last gen where the inspiron and the xps had the same chasis... dell finally decided to make xps actually a true gaming machine and not an upgraded inspiron.
