For "normal" gaming systems I usually suggest the Corsair 620....but for this monster? I really don't know...

read this article...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/oth...u-roundup.html

article only really applies if you want to go HUGE...which from the looks of it you do.

...and for some decent discussion on the article see....

nah i can survive on 750 watts... no need for a kilowatt unless i want to consider water cooling and quad sli
post #6 of 175
Yes, but can it run Doom?
About the X48...did you read the full Anandtech X48 article?

no but i know Sli wont be supported in those boards at first, which i suppose would be fine if I just run a single gx2

Jesus this is gonna be a monster
Looks good to me!

I'd just recommend that you check to make sure you can run all that RAM you want on the motherboard ... assume you will be using 64-bit ... Vista???

Also, what HSF are you gonna use for the CPU?

I'd recommend good fans as well ... I never could get really great airflow through my P1.5 case.

As for the PSU ... 750W should be fine, but the Ultra X3 1000W can be found for about $250, and it also has had some great reviews.

BTW, Duke. SWEET choice on the motherboard (points to sig... and his desktop's mobo).

As a tip, make sure you connect the EPS12v power cable into the board BEFORE installing the board into the case. Otherwise, you won't be able to do it. It's probably the WORST thing on the board, is that one little design flaw.

Other than that, it seems like a DAMN good mobo. Good choice.

these are just theoretical systems to boot...
Okay, call me stupid here...

Good, now that that's over with... Steve you were talking about SLI, and then Buck's link leads to an article referring CrossFire. So... which one is it? X48 is an Intel based board with ATI CrossFire capability?

I'm confused.

these are potential systems, gathering opinions as the technology is available...
I linked that article due to his original listing of the DFI X38 board (an awesome board, BTW). He has several components to compile and plenty of time to do it.

I linked the X48 article for some suggestive reading. The article is about the capabilities of the X48 chipset, with only a small mention of X-Fire. The X48 will be out in Februay...so that should fall well within his build time.

I don't believe he's considering SLI anymore.

probably not until the gx2s come out...

what i guess I am looking for input on is what technology i should be looking at to complete a built between the feb-march time frame. AND if I wanted to go SLi in June/July, what are my mobo options? If I want to stay X-fire, the board I listed should be great.

Why don't you just get a Skulltrail board and get it over with.
