Starting to get a semi...but I still don't have warm fuzzies with the 9800GX2.

BUT - someone has to get one...right? I'm rarely the first to buy new tech unless the vast majority of reviews are solid - I'm chicken that way =)

I'm starting to think the X48 may not be the best board for me. Sure its gonna be create for OCing, but I'm thinking I may not go down that route right now.... Are the 790i boards DDR3 only? DD3 is so damn expensive and I want 4GB of RAM...but that'll mean dropping around $800 on RAM alone!
All 790i boards are DDR3. The 780i boards are DDR2.

And you're right about the DDR3 prices, still way too high (but DDR2 prices have spoiled us).

Heres one reason not to buy that...

and you won't like it.

it's an AW! If you're going to spend all that coin on an AW you might as well spend it on DD3, it's only a few hundred more to that $6,000 computer.

The setup above does have DDR3. And thanks for your option but this point does not apply in my decision making.

Hey I still have student loans up the @$$.

Im also saving to buy a house this year so this decision isn't cut and dry. I may decide that buying a new PC at this time isn't a very good idea.... There's a lot of things to take into consideration. But yes being "single" (with gf) does help. If that mobo on the 2nd config was an X48 it would make this decision a lot easier. I'd pay the extra money to have both DDR2 and DDR3 compatibility then spending all this money on DDR3...

I wil be the practical one and say: "Save your money".
Maybe AW will let you "Review" one and you can get your fix that way.

I would put the money towards the house.

Thought you said something about DDR3 and AW. I put them together and thought if you spend that much for a retail desktop. You might as well get DDR3.
