No not thousands.
Fine, make it singular

Don't mind me btw, I'm sure you and everybody else by now knows that I'm a penny pincher, will always be I know you'll love the system no matter what!

Donkey, can you explain this money spent on a machine, that cost/performance is completely under par with lets say even you ur sub 8800?
That case isn't worth 300. You're paying an extra 200 for the badge on it.

Nice computer. Since I'm getting an 8800GT as a temp card, we'll have to have some head-to-head benchmarks.

lol, such a tease You get our hopes up about you building something and you just go ahead and order it

Nice machine though, I hope you enjoy it

Because I felt like it. This is a broken record.

You do know you still have to take pics and post them in a "Duke's New AW Setup" thread...right?

I know - I didn't even have to ask.

The CPU from 2.4 to 2.66 is 40 dollars. The biggest upgrade was the 8800GT which was 250. I personally would have just gotten a cheaper dedicated and then slapped in something bigger or meaner later on

Dell has the option in the 420 to do a quad core @ 2.4 or for no extra cost, swap it for an E8400 3Ghz

on other note, you can't just swap parts you think are equal value. I'm paying a premium for DDR3 and the 790i motherboard. You cant just put DDR2 in there and say, look at the better deal. I priced everything out on newegg that i'm configured with and it comes in well over $3K
post #91 of 175
So tell us, how much did your rig come to with tax and shipping and all that. $4771.71

also, that case isn't worth 300, look at all these other cases on newegg, like the cosmos. Alot better choices out there Steve. The AW case is just that AW and people pay extra for that badge. Chrome plastic doesn't raise the value.

Gb, I'm going to suggest you stay out of this thread from now on. You're really on my nerves right now and I'm not kidding either.

I get it.
I guess this thread should be in the AW section now. This is desktop ot section.

lighten up man. For months you have been talking about a new build and you go and do this... kinda disappointing thats all. I'm sorry if I offended you.

At the moment I don't believe so, I guess it's the future too look out for. Although I must say I will probably just go to nehalem and DDR3 at the same time, that way everything will be optimal

Geez...

This argument got old several years ago.

There's nothing wrong with getting an AW system, I've bought six... four desktop, two laptops. For value/performance, it's difficult to beat Alienware when it comes to configured high performance systems.

While some people feel the need to pinch every dollar they can with a system, so they spend the time shopping, researching, ordering, waiting for parts, then assembling and installing software, sometimes people just want a decent system ready to plug in and use.

As I said, I've bought six AW systems, and only two of them cost more than $2200 so it's entirely possible to get a good deal with AW. Last desktop I ordered from AW was cheaper than a Dell with as similar a configuration I could come up with...

Steve is going to pay a premium of course due to the 790i, and the ddr3, but that's always the case with new stuff at AW. You'd pay a pretty penny if you bought the same hardware as well rather than compromising on parts for best price.

I just decided to build a cheap system to tide me over until AW has Nehalem processors and better vid cards than the 9800 line. I can understand with all the time and worry I've spent on just a quick build, why Steve would opt for just letting AW build it, and if anything happens to it, AW will deal with that also. If I have an issue, AW isn't going to deal with it for me...

Bottom line is, if Steve can afford it, why not? Maybe he has better things to do with his time. Maybe you guys are just upset that some people can afford to have Alienware build them a system and you can't.

I'm looking forward to reading your impressions Steve. With the number of systems you've bought from AW now, I'm sure you're comfortable with what you'll recieve... All the systems I've bought from Alienware have been great machines.

Thanks for your response Hammer. Like always it will come with a review.

Nice edit Gb.

Congrats, Steve.

Hammerhead has said it all, but I can't resist commenting on this one:

I don't know what the whole comment was before the edit, but this comment is pretty rude. Just because Steve has picked a system from AW doesn't make it less of a desktop ... I didn't see the snide comments when others here posted their new setups from other brands. So you don't like AW, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. And, we know Steve has the knowledge and capability to do a DIY build. He's not some noob just clicking on the best parts, he knows what he's getting and has decided the price premium is worth it to him to get a pre-built system with a case he happens to love.

@ GbrilliantQ ... you're a smart guy who's doing a nice build, but your condescending attitude makes me less inclined to even want to participate in the desktop threads. Maybe I should just stick to the AW section along with Steve's new desktop...
